Why does Intel always release -E chips a year later?

Ivy-E was released at the end of the generation....Haswell-E was released at the end of the generation 

 

Is there any particular reason why they do this? Why not release Haswell-E with Haswell? 

 

Was the -E chip added to the lineup after the fact and Intel decided to add one with the old architecture to get some more money from it before releasing the new one?

I think it's because they prioritize the mainstream platform over the extreme platform

Because the server grade chips lag behind the consumer chips. They're still released every year, they even put the current year's number in front of it, i.e. 4960X even though IB CPUs started with 3s. Same with 3960X.

Because Intel waits until they get good enough yield to produce processors requiring a extremely good binning. If Intel tried to produce haswell-e earlier they would most likely get a worse yield, and would have trouble keeping the binning good enough.
