replace the old dock connector

so i have this friend of mine, whos phone wouldn't be recognized by any USB ports so we tried another charger again same thing...she did a little googling and found this http://www.imore.com/replace-dock-connector-gsm-iphone-4 now i have never attempted this before, wondering if any of you guys have and tell me your diffculties with doing this (cannot afford new phone) or did it go pretty smoothly? oh not to mention its out of warranty as well

You could take it in to a Authorized Apple Repair store or Apple store to fix it if you don't mind paying full price or if you don't want to damage it. Since the iPhone 4 is old and ios 8 won't be supported on it, i suggest to get a new phone.
