Heyo, so I was wondering if any of you guys know if I really need to Restore my iPod for it to be back up and running. I've never done a back up for it and restoring t would set it to factory default, which I REALLY don't want to do. And yes, I did just put really in Cosmic Sans, with underlining while being bold, italicised and in 18 font size, that's how much I don't want to reset it to factory defaults.

So again, if anyone knows if I can do something other than Restore my iPod I'd really appreciate it.

Also....

2,000th post :D

Cheers!

You need to tell us what the problem is first before we can help you.

The iPod is in "Recovery Mode" not much to say really. Oh forgot to say that it's a 4th gen touch running the latest 6.1.6.

I want to avoid having to restore it as I have a lot of photos, notes and videos on it that I really would like to keep.

Hold the power and home buttons down simultaneously until it restarts.

Doesn't want to work. I put a list of what happens.

  • Screen has cable -> iTunes
  • Hold down Home button and Lock button together and cable -> iTunes screen disappears
  • Powering on screen appears
  • Powering on screen disappears
  • Pressed Home button
  • Held down Home button
  • Pressed Lock button
  • Screen shows cable -> iTunes

So yeh, it doesn't want to restart, fkin hell, I did nothing to it and it just wants a full fukin restore!!!!!

Soz for the language but man I'm pissed.

Doesn't want to work...

Sounds like something may have corrupted. Switch the iPod off the normal way (it should be possible), then plug it straight into the computer and let it start itself up (don't press any buttons). See what happens then. If the black screen remains for, say 5 minutes, then I don't think you have a choice.

It's always on the cable -> iTunes, this one:

I can however hold the Lock button for it to show the screen and not show it, though that doesn't help the slightest.

Well I don't think you have a choice. Have you been backing things up using iTunes and iCloud?

Nope, never had, dam, guess it's my own fault huh.

If you download the popular jailbreak tool Resn0w, it has an option to 'fix recovery boot loop' which gets it out of that mode.

Yeh I'll pass, anyways I'm already restoring it, fek.

You don't backup to iCloud?

Well I've never connected my iPod to my PC (at least not in a year or so) but I do remember having a Gmail linked section in my notes and a photo stream section with the photos.

Yea, if it was booting into recovery mood then there isn't much you could do.  You might still be able to recover (at least some) the data if you make the device appear as a volume and then use some data recover software on it.  I never tried with my phone but when my dads mac mini was corrupted he took it to the genius bar where they ended up being less than useful.  I had them then wipe the drive and reinstall the OS since we were there and I don't think they included a DVD with the OS on it with the computer; then I went home and recovered the data since the reinstall process doesn't securely erase the data.

So there is a chance you might be able to do the same.

Maybe, I'll keep that in mind, thanks.

iCloud defeats the purpose of a PC- unless its an older model, or you haven't updated to a recent iOS version? Just go to settings-icloud-backup, and turn it on.
