My bet is on the SATA card being flakey, but the 1m SATA cables probably aren't helping. At absolute minimum, I would recommend switching over to an LSI HBA (9207-8i or 9300-8i) so you can eliminate that as part of the issue. Those cards will also have better quality PHYs to drive a meter of cable (note you'll need to get some SAS to SATA cables too, but those aren't super expensive either).

I recently build an external enclosure for 8 HDD bays and got pcie to 8 port sata, looks like a NAS but is internally connected to the desktop. I got some NAS drives to put on it and sometimes I get the "K:\ is not accessible. A device which does not exist was specified." It happens randomly and I have to use the EaseUS Partition Master to repair it. Does it have to do with me getting NAS drives on desktop? Could it be the pcie to sata card? Could it be too many drives on windows?

The drives are Toshiba N300 4TB, WD RED Plus 4TB and Seagate Ironwolf 4TB. Windows 11, x570 mb

How are you getting the data from the desktop to the enclosure? SATA? PCIe?

This could very well be the problem, depending on what kind of card it is (the cheap ones are horrible).

Also probably no. I've done at least eight drives on Windows before.

Also probably no. I've done at least eight drives on Windows before.

Thank your for the reply. I got cheaper one from amazon. I also got 3 drives internally. I got a pcie to 8 port sata, 1m meter long sata cables and also power extensions to connect to the psu.
