I just recently purchased new computer parts with the exception of a GPU because I have a 1080ti FE that has certainly served me well for almost the last decade. I'm looking to upgrade my GPU this coming year, waiting for GPU prices to fall, to something that better fits my overall PCs specs.

What would be a great upgrade in terms of a GPU that wouldn't absolutely abolish my bank account, and isn't necessarily overkill for what I have currently. I considered moving to a 9800X3D as well.

Budget (including currency):
 $1,000-$2,500 USD

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: WoW, RL, Fortnite, Misc

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I built on a budget and this is my current setup.
1080ti FE
AMD 8700F
B650 Eagle AX Mobo
64gb DDR5 5200mt/s
M.2 SSD x2
Sata SSD x2 (raid0) for not-important, replaceable media
Rosewill 1200W PSU.

What's your resolution?

I play games at 1080p I've never really had the need to go higher than that. However I do play at higher framerates. 100hz-165hz.

Your RAM is an obvious bottleneck. Maybe dump it on Ebay / FB Marketplace.

Is there really that substantial of a difference between 6000, and 5200? I was under the impression the difference could be negligible. But enough to be considered a bottleneck before the cpu?

DDR5-6000 CL30 is the sweet spot for AM5.  CL30 seeing how games benefit from low latency RAM.

I see your point for squeezing the absolute most. But even the video shows averages not being that far apart +- 10fps and the 1% lows are fairly close. But I digress, more interested in a GPU that is a significant upgrade without destroying my wallet. The only part I'm actually looking to replace currently. And if I have the available money I can certainly look into new ram later.

i would go for an RX 7700 XT or 7800 XT, if you don't care at all about RTX, the price for these GPU is between 450 to 600€ (in italy) depending on the brand and the flavour, i game at around 100FPS in monster hunter wilds (not a well optimized game apparently) at ultra at 1440p with an RX7800XT so i would go for this GPU if you don't mind spending a little more now for a GPU that can be good for years, plus as @Why_Me said i would go for 6000/30 RAM to get the best out of the system. otherwise you will need a 4070 or more but it probably costs way more than the AMD cards i suggested you which are the "counterparts"
