Budget (including currency): 750$ cad

Country: Canada, Ontario

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: work, apex, sm2, wow, bg3

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

i7 13700kf

32 gigs ram ddr5

1tb Samsung 990 pro SSD

Nvidia 2070 8 gig

Corsair RMx shift RM850x

Fractal North

Dell 40 inch ultrasharp u4025qw screen with thunderbolt

Hey guys I upgraded my PC in late 2023 but decided to skip the GPU upgrade.  I have limited cash to spend on a gpu now (750 cad ish) and I'm not sure if I should upgrade or wait a few months and try to grab a 9070 XT.  The 7800 xts seem to have dropped in price.

I really dont know if I should upgrade but my 40 inch 4k screen makes the 2070 feel slow and older.

So what should I buy?

The 7800 XT is twice as fast as the 2070 so you will be getting quite the performance uplift.

You also have a strong CPU to back it up so you will get full usage out of the GPU 🙂

I would say that the 7800 XT is a fantastic purchase.

here is a 15 game average at 4k by Hardware Unboxed 🙂

That being said, the 9070 XT is significantly faster than the 7800 XT at 4k resolution.

It really depends on the price you are comfortable with spending and if you want to wait.

Thanks for the InSite, went with an Asus 9070 OC at 889$.  Over budget but the 4k gaming boost over the 7800 I think is worth it.

No Problem at all 🙂  That is a great card.

Did you get the non XT?

Its expensive but just think about how many hundreds if not thousands of hours of fun you can have with this GPU 🙂

Fun per hour per dollar ain't that bad if you look at it like this.

No, local stock on the XT had only cards over 1050$ before tax.  I took the 889$ 9070 as a compromise.  They had a 7900 gre as well but I think the 9070 will be a better choice.

Gotcha.

Still a great card and sits inbetween the 7800 XT and 9070 XT in terms of 4k performance, leaning slightly towards the 9070 XT in performance.

Considering it will have full FSR 4 support as well is great.

You picked the right card in my opinion 🙂
