Hello,

I have an rx 7800xt that stopped working suddenly while turning the computer on one day.

My specs are as follows:

AMD 7800X3D

Gigabyte B650 X AX V2

32BG 6000 GSkill RAM

XFX Speedster RX 7800XT

Several SSD's

750 Watt power supply

When attempting to boot up the computer, the VGA light comes on and stays on my motherboard, indicating a GPU failure. If I plug my DP cable into the motherboard, it posts at Windows normally. I have tried the following steps.

Replace GPU with a known working GPU - Issue no longer present and PC works normally

Place broken GPU into known working system - Issue present

Disassemble and reassemble GPU - no physical damage located

Apply new thermal paste - No change

Update BIOS to one from 12/19/2024 - Most recent version - No change

Clear CMOS - No change

Display Driver Uninstaller - No change

Plugged into each displayport plug on the GPU - No change

When running my computer through the motherboard for graphics with the 7800xt connected the the PCIE slot and plugged in, the card doesn't appear to be detected through Device Manager. The GPU does receive power - as in it lights up and the fans spin as normal.

Hoping for more steps to try before selling this as a parts card.

Thanks!

If the card has dual bios, flip the switch and try booting with the card installed

Also, check the condition of the power cable, and try another 6/8pin port on the PSU

Thanks for the reply. I tried both Primary and Secondary BIOS, and the same issue is present. Is it possible to flash a clean bios to the card in any way? Also yes, the card appears to receive power. It lights up and the fans turn on.

Youre not likely going to find one if you dont smell smoke in your room. Although that amount of fraying on the braid is concerning, is that DIY braiding or from wear and tear?

Not without some effort with a BIOS chip reader, if it is bricking.

DIY, it's not fraying. At some point I put electrical tape over the colored wires and have never bothered to take it off. Cosmetic only.

Did you try on a HDMI port?

Also did you check the gold fingers and traces on the GPU pcie connector?
