Hey guys,

So I am wanting to buy the Radeon HD 7970 GPU but I am unsure about water blocks and how they fit to the GPU, am I right in thinking that any water block made for the HD 7970 will fit to the GPU? or will it vary depending on the make of the GPU vendor such as if it's made by ASUS, Gigabyte etc.

Also who would you say makes the most reliable Water blocks for GPUs?

Cheers!!

So simply put no not all water blocks will fit any, in your case 7970, GPU. For the most part reference cards have the highest compatibility with water blocks. For other more specialized PCBs you might be only able to find 1 or 2 water blocks that will fit on them. However they do make universal water blocks that will fit most cards of a given type, once again like your 7970. But they tend not to be full cover blocks and only cool the GPU. This means you have to find some kind of heat sink to cover the rest of the card.

So if that was super confusing im sorry. Where you should start if pick a card then pick a water block manufacturer. When you are picking a water block manufacturer pick something that looks good to you and is in your price range. Almost all the big water block makers, Swiftech, EK, XSPC, Koolance,Alphacool make blocks that pretty much preform within a few degrees of each other. Then you need to look through all of there water blocks to find something that will fit your card.

EK is a good place to find a water block they have a very helpful webpage that will figure out what blocks will work with your card. Check it out

http://www.coolingconfigurator.com/

Swiftech's page is super simple to figure out as well.

http://www.swiftech.com/KOMODO-HD7900.aspx#tab3

XSPC makes blocks mostly for reference cards.

I would start with frozencpu.com and just look at all the styles and prices then go from there.

Hi guys,

I have never posted anything on a forum before so I'm unsure it this is going to the right place.

I'm looking at getting the new Asus GTX680-DC2G-4GD5 GPU and water cooling it.

Using the above link to EK's cooling configurator (thanks Gmac) it suggests the EK-FC670 GTX DCII - Acetal+Nickel water block will fit.

As this is my first adventure into water cooling I was wondering if I have to use the EK Backplate EK-FC670 GTX DCII Backplate - Black or can I keep the stock Asus one?

I have spent hours trying to find water cooling information for the Asus GTX680-DC2G-4GD5 and found nothing... Very Frustrating!!!

Thanks Yall

You can keep the stock back plate most likely. I could on my 6970. To find out more look at the instructions provided by EK with the water block and you will see what happens with the back plate during the process.

Feel free to PM for any water-cooling questions. Check out my profile for more ways to contact me.
