Hey all,

I have an old gaming laptop that I am hoping to make useful again. I am hoping to make it into a media server/NAS solution for the time being. Eventually I want to build a dedicated machine to do these things but I don't want to spend any money on this for the time being. It has a i7-8750H, 1050ti, 16gb RAM so I am hoping it will be decent enough for personal use. For storage.... I want to use some external HDDs for the time being. I know USB will bottleneck a lot of stuff and it is far from ideal but this is what I have for now and I want to at least learn about setting up a NAS/media server using what I have.

I am new to NAS/servers so I a bit lost in all the options out there. Any suggestions are welcome.

What I would like to do:
Setup Jellyfin with radarr/sonarr/etc and make things as seemless as possible. I have looked into jellyseer but I am open to other suggestions.

Also, should I stick with windows or switch to linux for this? I don't have much experience using linux but I am open to switching if it is clearly a better choice for what I am trying to do.

Any guidance or suggestions on this are appritiated.

Thanks,
Kolas
