I debated for a long time which mechanical keyboard to get for my first but on Black Friday I finally pulled the trigger on the Keychron K10 Pro because the deal was so good (50-something USD on Amazon).

OMG how have I not had one before it sounds so nice, the sound scratches the itch in my brain, and it turns out the thing that'd been giving me issues trying other mechanical keyboards was that they were linear instead of tactile.

Switching to this from my Logitech Craft. It feels so nice, it sounds so satisfying, and it wasn't stupidly expensive.

It was kind of a pain finding a more affordable good-quality hot-swappable full-sized keyboard (I'm in accounting and data analytics, really need that numpad), as most of them are 60% or 75%. Fully endorse this sucker, though.

Has the RGB backlighting which is unimportant to me, but might be a selling point for someone else.

Keycaps are like a hotdog bun, left and right sides a lil bit taller to make it less likely for your finger to slip and hit the next key. Not a lot, just a lil. Honestly, they're probably more like the rumble strips, letting you know that you're veering a little bit.

Practically no setup. Pretty plug and play with the cable. Going to try Bluetooth setup next and look into this whole QMK/VIA thing.

But overall, if you're a mechanical keyboard noob like me, the Keychron K10 Pro is absolutely an awesome place to start.

  • Amazon has them stocked, so if you end up hating it for whatever reason, you can drop it off at your nearest Whole Foods for return.
  • Hot-swappable, so you can try out different switches.
  • It's compatible with QMK/VIA, which from what I've gathered, are the best keyboard softwares.
  • You don't have to do any complex setup if you don't want to, though. Just plug and play.

But yeah, I totally understand what all the keyboard types are talking about, this makes typing an enjoyable Experience™, instead of just something you do as a part of something else.

Heck, even if you don't think you'll be into mechanical keyboards, get it and give it a shot. Amazon has an awesome return program, so it's pretty much no-harm-no-foul.
