I have a RX 7900 XT GPU and need to get a new CPU to stop bottlenecks. I'm trying to do 1440p 120-140fps on modern games. My budget is $300-700 for the CPU itself.

I have an AM4 motherboard and am 100% fine with changing motherboards & ram, it would probably be better that way since I have enough parts to make a 2nd backup PC.

 Confused ramblings:

I'm seeing lots of people recommending the R7 5800X3D  since they're around $300-350 for an AM4 direct upgrade. But I'm also seeing lots of R7 5800X for about $120 used and they look like they have similar benchmarks. Which tells me I know nothing and need to ask internet people for help.

5800X3D is marked up a lot right now.

I would recommend getting a 5700X3D instead.  Its $200 🙂

@OpalTheOpossum It really is!

The 5700X3D keeps up or beats the AM5 CPU's in gaming ( Not 7800X3D )

Its great for 200 bucks!

I probably should've mentioned I'm currently on a 3700X and I'm getting 100% load on games while my gpu is essentially comatose at 65F. "I think" I want to upgrade a higher than that just so I don't have to mess with my system for a few more years.

So what do you expect to upgrade to then?

Check through this video, it includes the 5700X3D and 3700x.

The 5700X3D is faster than the 5800X in gaming.

You might have to pause in the gaming benchmarks as there are a lot of CPU's to look through.

This is the step up from the 5700X3D that is worth while doing but its over budget unfortunately.

; - ; I don't know, I didn't expect a bunch of $300-200 recommendations and I'm worried about taking a tiny upgrade just to need a bigger upgrade shortly after

Check the video.  The 5700X3D is significantly faster than the 3700x and should last you quite a while.

If you want something better you unfortunately have to go over budget.

The 5700X3D takes into account that you will be using the same motherboard and RAM, this is why its only $200.  You already have the other components.

We can of course make it $550-$600 if we throw in a new AM4 motherboard and RAM if that price makes it look better 😄  ?

Do you live near a Microcenter?

I don't live near a microcenter, but 550-600 is within budget. I was aiming for $300-700 for the CPU itself. I'll clarify what I meant in the main post.

That makes it a lot easier 🙂

The 9800X3D is coming out on November 7th so if you want the best of the best, wait until then and see the reviews!

Reviews should go live on November 6th.

The 7800X3D is currently quite expensive compared to what it has been due to limited stock as AMD has slowed down production in anticipation of the 9800X3D.
