Motherboard: B650 Tomahawk

CPU: 7800x3d (installed 2 weeks ago)

GPU: 7800XT

case: 4000D airflow

memory: Gskill 5600 (I believe)

I’ve been running this PC without issue for a couple of months.  About 2 weeks ago I ran the bios update and installed the 7800x3d.  After multiple cpu tests I had no issues over the last two weeks.

A few days ago I noticed the memory was running at 4800 instead of the 5600 spec on the ram.  After updating this in the bios the system crashed about 30 minutes into the game resulting in a black screen that will not post.  Motherboard is showing continues orange light on the ram and red on the CPU.

I’ve removed the GPU and plugged straight into the CPU for display, removed SSD’s, purchased new ram and reset the motherboard battery multiple times with no success on posting.

I’ve also flashed the bios to the latest version MSI has available (beta).  I’ve reseated the CPU, verified there were no apparent bent pins.  Temps were always manageable with the system, never going above 84 during 30 minute CPU tests.

what are my next actions here.  I’m assuming an issue with the CPU or motherboard?  Any advise is appreciated.  Please go easy on me.

First thing I'd do is to flash the latest non-beta BIOS.  You got enough issues without dealing with beta bugs. Clear the CMOS memory and then try to boot your computer.

If it won't post, I think you should test your CPU in another computer to make sure it is in working condition. While at it, if you can test the RAM, that would be nice.

I remember that first AM5 motherboards had a tendency to fry high-end CPUs. I don't know if that's what happened here. Search for relevant youtube videos from LTT and JayZ2Cents for more info.

Good luck !

Thank you for the help here.

I updated the bios to the latest version before installing the 7800x3d.  Once it stopped posting I flashed the bios to the latest released beta version as a last ditch effort.

I purchased new 6,000 corsair ram today, cleared bios without a post.  I attempted in multiple ram slots with a single stick of new ram
