I have a corsair RM850x psu and it comes whit two pcie cables presumably for the gpu. They both have a split end and in total one cable has two 6+2 pins attached. My ASUS tuf 4070 ti super comes with an adapter that takes two 8 pin pcies and plugs it into one for the gpu. Do I need to use both pcie cables and just leave the split ends hanging or do I utilize one with its both its main end and split end for the adapter?

You can use it either way, single cable to dual 8 pins into the adapter, or both cables using only one 8 pin each into the adapter, leaving the unused 8 pins, unused.

Theoretically using two separate cables is better for the actual cables under load, but considering these are oem type 4 corsair cables on an rm850x, that’s also not a concern because those are generally really good cables.

Thank you, I tried using two separate cables and once I powered on the pc the GPU had a red light. Do you think it has something to do with the way I installed the power cords or the way I installed the GPU into the motherboard?

Could be either or. Make sure the cables and the card are seated well.
It wouldn’t be caused by the orientation of the cables, but of their physical connections.

I didn't hear a click when I installed the gpu but maybe it's just the gigabyte b650 aorus elite ax lock that doesn't have a sound.

if it's not locked in it might not be properly seated, take it out and reseat it.

btw.. each 8 pin pcie connector can deliver 150watt to the device it powers, BUT, the max the PCIE cable itself can deliver to both 8 pins ports on one cable is ca 250-260watt..  that's why you should use 1 8 pin on each cable  since a super can draw 285w..
