New am5 build issues

Go to solution Solved by GuiltySpark_,

BIOS.

Update the BIOS for Zen4. The platform is a year old and MANY things have been updated and fixed in that time.

Needing help with troubleshooting a new am5 build. It powers on and the rgb ram turns off and on. But no boot to display. We have tried reseating the gpu, cpu and ram and have checked all the power connections but nothing seems to work even tried a whole diffrent gpu and still no display. Any help would be appreciated.

How long did you let it go? When AM5 first boots up, its not uncommon for it to take 3-5 minutes or even longer as it trains memory.

We left it for 15 minutes to do ram training. Still nothing after that.

Alright, then list out full system specs please.

out of curiosity, do you have the 8+4 CPU plugged in? See a weird thread on Reddit that someone had that then removed the +4 and then the board booted.

We have it plugged in now as we thoigh it might resolve the issue but it had also been doing the same issue before we had plugged the +4 in. I do have a video of the pc and what it's doing but it too long for the forums.

Plug your Monitor into the motherboard. The 7000 series CPUs have an iGPU. This will rule out faulty PCIe slot.

We have tried that and it is still the same with no display output. The monitor dose detect that their is a connection but no imagine. And he have tried a diffrent gpu and the same issue. @Skiiwee29

The motherboard also all looks fine as we took the cpu out to check the pins and they all look good. No damage on the motherboard and it seems to be giving power to the ram aswell. Has me genuinely stumped as never had any issues like this on my 2 previous am4 systems.

BIOS.

Update the BIOS for Zen4. The platform is a year old and MANY things have been updated and fixed in that time.

So it could just be that the issue that the bios is so outdated it being 1 year ago I bought the motherboard that it won't boot? Or because am5 was such a new platform when I initially got it that it was just a general issue with the bios

I don't know but you're at the stage where you try things and that is certainly something you should do anyway with a new AM5 system.

I shall give it a try. I'm going to leave the system running for an hour or 2 just to see if its taking a ridiculous amount if time to ram train. Since it looks as though its getting stuck on the ram training.

It shouldn't. Memory training for 32GB for me in the past year has been at maximum 20-25 seconds.

I'll try take a shorter video to show what's happening but it appears that it dose get stuck on the training from what I've seen of other builds using the same cpu and ram.

It was the bios. As the mother board was a first batch of am5 motherboards to released it didn't have the support for the cpu or the ram. The issue is now solved as it posted into the bios.

Well, glad that worked but these boards worked out of the box with Zen4, they released at the same time specifically for eachother. I bought my board and chip the day they launched over a year ago and there was no issue. It had the launch BIOS from October 2022.

Hm, 7600 came out later but I don't recall an issue with those being any different than their x counterparts. Oh well, at least its working.

I've a feeling that it was the Kingston fury expo ram as that was a few months after the launch im pretty sure. I've heard about a lot of issues being caused due to ddr5 ram
