Screen randomly flickers plus, programs not starting?

i5 4670k (stock), 8GB RAM, Gigabyte Z97X MB, Seasonic 650W  Gold PSU, Hyper 212 cooler, Radeon HD5870, Windows 10 home, ASUS VW224 monitor

So I have this computer with the specs that I just listed above.  I don't do much on it, just surf the web, and watch video's mainly.  Sometimes, like 5 minutes after I turn the computer on, the screen will display just fine, but then I move the mouse to click on something, and the screen goes black, but the monitor remains on.  It only goes black for like 10 seconds and then it resets itself and the screen works fine, don't know why?  Also, the other day, the monitor did that, but instead of going black, some kind of black/grey/white wave, started pulsing across the screen.  The monitor wouldn't turn off, so I unplugged the power and DVI cable.  When I plugged it back in, the monitor was fine, but I had to resize my windows because it had reset them, kinda like if you had to reinstall drivers... not sure what this could be?  It's really random.

Also, today, I start this same computer, and not all of my startup programs have started, not sure why?  Anyone might know what's going on?  Thanks!

computer has about 7 years of light use, just surfing the web mainly

so I'm guessing it might be more of a GPU issue, than a monitor issue?
