Budget is within £1000

It's use case will be for university and studying, traveling abroad and light gaming with my partner (who lives abroad).

I'd seen the vivo book 16x for 1200 completely new, most expensive model. My question is this:

Is a laptop with a 4060 worth getting? What kind of laptop should I be looking for? Is what ive found considered to be not very good?

And additionally are there any really good and well know value laptops? I remember seeing the zephyrus g14 getting a massive recommendation from ltt back in the day.

Thank you! If you need anymore information just comment 🙂

What games would you like to play on it? A 4060 is able to handle most modern games, just not at the highest settings

Thanks for the response, honestly I'd go far to say that a 4060 is beyond my needs, I'm not going to say no to a good value laptop with a 4060 but I personally think it's overkill for what I play/would use it for. Although, it does mean I could use it for editing.

For $1000 I’d recommend these laptops

https://geni.us/B3Sku9

https://geni.us/MVm9k4U

One is $900 and has an i7 and 4050, while the other is $950 and has an i5 and 4060.

The only real question is what games do you play? Do you play CPU intensive games like Valorant or GPU intensive games like The Last of Us? Once you’ve answered that than you’ve gotten your choice.

Edit: There’s also this one https://a.co/d/clzfWO9

It’s Ryzen based so it’ll perform in CPU like a champ and has DDR5 + a 165hz display. However it does have a 4050 instead of a 4060 but since you said light gaming that shouldn’t worry you much. This one is the best overall option in my list so far for value and spec (besides the GPU).

Great picks. However, I think these are pretty big guys that aren't primarily meant to be carried around on a daily basis. If the OP is not fixated on gaming, then the vivo book he mentioned will be more than enough, and its dimensions are more practical.

Just my opinion

Well thin and lights for gaming do have good options like these:

https://a.co/d/2JytbRQ

https://a.co/d/414mVnK

https://a.co/d/aTuBRsE (This one is the best value imo)

None of them could match the 4060 OP had in the vivobook so if they want more GPU performance I’d say go for it but the best value one from these 3 does have a Ryzen 9 + 16GB of DDR5 which is nice.

Didn’t really think about form factor much in my last suggestions, thanks for pointing that out.

Hey there, I saw you on here but accidently forgot to reply, oops :/. But what the previous commenter suggested was correct, I was looking for a 14' laptop with a gpu no higher than a 60 class card. I accidently included the 16x vivobook by mistake.

I ment to include the 14x. I like the look of the rog flow, that caught my eye but what is the 3050tis performance like? I use to have a 1050ti, is it alot better? Thanks for all the help 🙂

The 3050 Ti is about 20% better in the only title I could find benchmarks for that wasn’t cpu bound (Fortnite). The 3050 Ti is just a weird card overall so when I went to find benchmarks for it, it varied a lot. According to techpowerup the 3050 Ti is closer to a GTX 1650 and the 1050 Ti Mobile is only about 10% worse which is odd but ok? The 4060 mobile in that vivo book is 2-3x better than both cards performing closer to a desktop RX 6600 so if you find a thin and light with one in it for $1000 I’d say jump on it. You do still have to consider the fact that the ROG Flow has a Ryzen 9 in it so if your upgrading from something like a 6th-8th gen Intel your going to see a great performance increase in CPU based games and tasks.

Edit: TLDR if you find a 4060 thin and light get it(Assuming you play GPU games intensive games). The performance increase in the flow for GPU is only about 20% whilst CPU increase is far higher, but may not matter in the games you play.

Either of them would be great. The mobile 3060 is about equivalent to a desktop 1080 so you will be good to go in every game, and it’s only a teensy bit worse than the mobile 4060. That laptopoutlet site looks a bit sketch… so I’d go with the eBay one to be safe. Good finds overall, the Razer laptop also has thunderbolt by the looks of it so you could even run an eGPU if you wanted too lol.
