AUD $1,500 Build

Go to solution Solved by venomtail,

Do you need CUDA for the rendering workload? If not, this could be a great option. Shoutout to Sonic for bringing the price down for the motherboard by a large margin. Use stock cooler:

Budget (including currency):  AUD $1,500

Country: Australia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:

Forza Horizon 5, Starfeild, Gta 5. Also used for web browseing and commonly have a lot of tabs open at once. will also do some 3d modleing for desgin work but not doing any rendering at the moment but would be great I could. currently runnung 1920x1080 27in 75hz moniter but would like to upgarde to 4k at some point but may not in curent budget and can upgrade gpu then but want the rest of the system to run well if I upgrade that.

Other details:

Running a gtx 750 with 12g of ddr3 1333mhz Ram and a i5-3470 with 220gb ssd. so most modern harware would be an upgrade. wanting good longgevity and upgrade path if i wanted to upgrade gpu, cpu or add ram.

I made a pc part picker list of what I think I would be good but would like feed back and recomdation for gpu. also would like good storge as it will serve as storge for my photos (pre and post edit).

Storage wise you should be able to get a good deal on a P5 Plus, faster NVME and it has a DRAM cache, the cache isne super useful for OS but more useful for other things.

For a video card, look towards a mid to high end 6 or 7 series from AMD, im currently running a 7800xt and its running very nicely, maybe look at a 6800xt or similar? just slightly lower than a 4070. If you need to for costs you can also buy used, they should be quite a bit cheaper

Also id recommend dual stick, maybe 32 GBs?, of higher clock speed ram, will serve you nicely in the long run, all apps and games are slowly using more and more RAM, aim for around 6000MHz as this is the general standard for max comfortable RAM speed, the 4800 will be fine, but lacking somewhat compared to the higher clocked ram, also the latency for 4800 is very high, generally the lower the clock speed the more the latency can be lowered, and the higher the clock speed, the higher the latency has to be for it to be stable and not overheat for this ram stick thats not really the case, both are on the slow end of things. Mine are running at 6000 CL32, however i was eyeing a 6000 CL30, but they sold out as i was trying to buy

Do you have a cooler chosen or have it yet?

System specs:

RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO RGB 32GB 6000MHz CL32 DDR5

Storage: 2TB SN850X, 1TB SN850 w/ heatsink, 500GB P5 Plus (OS Storage)

Case: 5000D AIRFLOW

Cooler: Thermalright Frost Commander 140

PSU: Corsair RM850e

Few upgrades, to this,

P5 plus SSD

7600X, like 20/30 quid extra, quite a bit higher clock speed and will run better

Memory, 32gb of much highe clock speed and much lower latency RAM

Added video card

It is a tad over budget, but if you can save up the little bit extra that should last you a good bit longer with more performance to boot.

Get another's opinions on the GPU too, AUD pricing is a bit funky for me and on top of that some things are EXPENSIVE 😅

Amazing help, thankyou! Is intel likely to change the socket they use from LGA1700 in the next 3-4 years as it is already a few years old now. I was looking at being able to upgrade the components like cpu without replacing motherboard to save money. (probably just get something more powerful not save it)

14th gen was just recently released as a 13th gen refresh, 15th gen will be using a new socket with roadmap saying it should be released in the, either second half of 2024 or one of the last 2 quarters, im not sure which quarter or overall which timeframe, but itll be in the latter half of 2024 at least, but a 13th gen intel cpu should last years anyway!

Thank you, unfortunately I can't really justify spending more than $1500 on a build currently but the help and advice has been gratefully appreciated.  AUD pricing is a pain and the second hand market for PC components is terrible. Get jealous of the americans and their access to cheaper components. But thanks for the help.

As far as I know the brand new 14th gen is the last stop for that socket.

Going AMD to save money on the future upgrade would be smarter in the long term but AMD demands a premium, so much right now that if you were to go with investing into an AM5 socket and a board that could handle future CPU's, short term you'd be knocked back down several pegs onto a worse experience 6600~, 3060~ due to having to spend the money elsewhere. Not that a 3060 is that bad.

Either way, I doubt an upgrade in the future to a 14th gen i9 would be terrible by comparison. Maybe no 9800X3D in the future but not the end of the world.

Cheers Mate, thanks for letting me know. Sounds like it is still a good option for upgrade if i wanted to put in a i7 14th gen down the line will there be a fall in 13th gen prices in next couple of months with 14th gen released recently, meaning it would be worth it to wait a month or 2 to do the build to save some cash.

13th gen will go on sale now, since 14th gen is out. I don't expect 14th gen to go on sale until 15th gen comes around. Not sure how big the discounts in Australia will be cause you know, Australia... the land far down under.

Perfect, will wait and see over the next month or so if they do go on sale but it can be a hit and miss with sales as most places are online only and don't really hold good sales. With black friday coming I may have a good shot at getting a deal but that is likely to be around 15% off or so which is good but not the best.
