5800X3Ds causing stability issues

Go to solution Solved by DamienSked,

And I just facepalmed with looking something up and I see Max Memory speed with the 5800X3D is 3200. I guess I'll change that and see if I can break things.

This is a Computer of Theseus where I've changed every component and still have the same problems.

It was
- MSI B450 Tomahawk Max
- Ryzen 5 3600
- 2x16 GSkill 3600
- Auorus Windforce 1080 Ti (had its own issues, BSOD in a diff computer playing Astroneer. CTD in mine in Astroneer. Otherwise fine)
- Thermaltake 850W PSU

It was mostly stable until I upgraded to the Ryzen 5800X3D. Then it became a buggy mess random crashes all the time. The easiet one to reproduce was in Shadow of the Tomb Raider benchmark often throwing a DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED or DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG error. Over the next few months I upgraded everything.

It is currently
- ASUS Prime B550-Plus
- Ryzen 7 5800X3D
- 2x16 GSkill 3600 (different set because a build in an older motherboard didn't like these sticks.)
- Gigabyte RTX 3080 Ti Eagle
- Seasonic 1000W PSU

It still was an unstable mess with the same issues after everything so I RMA'd the CPU and used a Ryzen 3 4100 while I waited. All was stable. Used it for 4 months out of laziness with no issues. I put the new 5800X3D in and back to an unstable mess with the same errors in Tomb Raider. I got a VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR BSOD earlier tonight and had whole system freeze up when changing tabs in Firefox 20 minutes later.

This install of Windows 10 Education was a month ago. All drivers and BIOS are up to date. I thought maybe it was a thermal issue but it crashes in AC4: Black Flag which is FPS locked at 60 so CPU and GPU are at about 60 degrees. I did noticed that the mobo tried to overclock this CPU but just ended up locking the clock to 3.6 Ghz, but it's now running at expected speeds. I've run Memtest86 with no issues found. I've tinkered with the TdrLevel and TdrDelay registry entries, but set them back to default after they didn't help. I'm still confused. Any other suggestions on things I should try?

Please uninstall the graphics driver using the DDU utility for the amd and nvidia display/physics/audio drivers in safemode then clean reinstall with most current versions uninstall all of it because the first DXGI is a graphics issue and same goes for the video scheduler error you should also run the ram speeds at 3200 like the previous person stated rysen cpus are very finicky when it comes to memory

I know it's cliché, but could you recheck on BIOS?
They just released another update few days ago for your ASUS PRIME B550-PLUS

And in addition of cliché, have you tried to reset BIOS settings after replace your CPU from 3600 to 5800X3D?
Mobo should recognize the CPU change and adjust to it, but just to be safe and make sure

5800X3D is not overclockable (unless you know on how to OC "professionally"), so it's best to leave setting to default on the BIOS

Don't be so hard on your self, all Zen4 CPU by default support up to 3200MHz RAM Speed, it's up to Mobo to overclock it

The good news is that your Mobo supports it, just enable the XMP/EXPO on your BIOS

But usually you have to make sure it's stable on default 3200MHz first when turning on and play games, then you can restart your PC and confidently enable the XMP/EXPO

My System: Ryzen 7800X3D // Gigabyte B650 AORUS ELITE AX // 32GB 6000MHz DDR5 Silicon Power Zenith CL30 // Sapphire Pulse AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT OC with mod heatsink on the metal plate  // Phanteks P300A  // Gigabyte Aorus GEN4 7300 PCIE 4.0 NVME // Kingston NV2 Gen4 PCIE 4.0 NVME //

Max speed is not 3200MHz. I've got my profile running at 3600MHz. I think the 3200MHz rating is just AMD covering their own arse in case the 0.01% of CPU's fail to be stable at a set XMP profile.

Thanks all. After almost week of changing the speed on the ram after applying the DOCP, everything is stable. I'm just gonna leave it here instead of banging my head against the wall for more speed.

That was put up the same day I posted this. I was wrong about being up to date before I even started typing.  😀

I wasn't trying to overclock the thing. I think I was only half paying attention in the EZmode bios and told the mobo to GIVE ME MORE POWER. Overdrive or whatever it's called.

No. Didn't realize it was a thing to do.
