Looking to build a new pc.  It'll be the first one I've built.  My current was built by someone else.  It's about 10 years old so looking to catch up to play some of the newer games.

Budget (including currency):  neighborhood of $2k USD

Country: US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Diablo 4, Starfield, newer AAA games on better settings

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Current pc is old.  i5 6700k, 1070.  I'd like to build ground up soon.  Two monitors are rather old(1920x1080), but I'll upgrade those later.

I appreciate the build.  I've been gaming for a bit but never delved into a lot of the technical aspects.  I'm still unsure when deciding between i5 13600k vs i7 13700k, ddr4 vs ddr5, and 4070 vs 4070ti.  $2k is top end, but for marginal gains, I'm not opposed to saving some money.

That i7 I posted is solid especially seeing how the oc headroom for these 13 gen cpu's isn't much. Take the monitor out of that build if you want to reduce the total cost.

You could have fit a RX 7900 XT into your build along with a 2TB SSD and a not so crappy case.  Balanced builds are the best builds.

But the 7900xt is not as good, also isnt the 4070 ti better than the 7900xt? Whats so bad about the case though? I'm genuinely not sure.

Balance ... don't cut corners in order to fit a specific component into a budget.

Case and 1TB SSD for a $2000 USD build. The reason that case has a big hunk of air restricting metal in the front is to give it structural support due to the fact it's made out of thin metal.

Went with a newer i5, and a rtx 4070 gpu. You can easily still get a new monitor now, and work it into the budget. If you have some extra funds though, I would go with an i7 just for longevity.
