Posted May 19, 2023 Hello, Apparently my CPU (Intel Core i7 8700) had been running higher temps the past year, spiking 80°C-90°C. The idle was around 66°C-70°C. I've been cleaning the case, changing thermal paste, switching air flow...nothing really made effect (tho when I used two opposite air flow directions on top chassis fans, with left one blowing in, and right one blowing out, temps did drop by 5°C) And then, I've touched the Process Power management, capping the Maximum processor state to 95% and suddenly CPU temp dropped to 40-45°C...under load! Considering I feel no change in performance, still play 2 emulators + browser + games at the same time, I personally think a trade off between lowering a bit the Maximum processor state and much cooler CPU is in my solid advantage. But why did it happen like so? What Maximum processor state do you use for your CPU? Which is the best setting? For those who wonder, I've turned overclocking years ago. As of Dec. 2024: Windows 11 Professional 64-bit Intel Core i7 8700 @ 3.20GHz 70 -80 °C in Game ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. TUF Z370-PLUS GAMING (LGA1151) 29 °C in Game NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Temperature 61 °C in Game Bought 2018. Working FLAWLESSLY. Never changed any thermal pastes. If I'd upgrade something it's be Videa, ofc with 3060/70 but they are too expensive atm.
