Thoughts and ideas on CPU-coasters.

I like the idea of having unique coasters, I don't think imbedding CPU's in resin is a good idea.

  • It feels like you lock the copper and gold in the CPU behind yet another obstacle to being recycled: an encasement in plastic(, which could cause confusion where to dispose of it, if it leaves the original purchaser).
  • Depending on the CPU to resin ratio, there is a lot of resin being used. Even if you use a more environment-friendly/more recyclable resin type, it's still "plastic" in most peoples eyes(assumption). (If we must use plastic, we should at least try to reduce the amount of plastic used.)
  • Can't change the CPU and it's a single purpose item.

If I was tasked to make a coaster in which there was a CPU I would design it in a similar fashion:

  • 2-part design, upper and the lower part.
  • Both parts are held together with either separate metal clips, screws(or integrated plastic clips).
  • Possibly a o-ring between the upper and the lower part to make it water-tight-ish.
  • And most important, make a single coaster be able to take multiple types of sized CPU depending on area and z-height. Meaning lga1700, lga1200, lga2011, am5 could share the same coaster-design if those combinations are possible.
  • Possibly another variant where 1 coaster is able to hold 2 or 4 (smaller)CPU's.
  • Maybe a place to store a small paper note with info about the CPU.

(Can elaborate more if wanted)

(First time posting, think I'm doing it correct)
