Computer wont shut down

Go to solution Solved by Llbalance,

ASRock got back to me and just said “please refer to the PDF link below.”

https://www.asrock.com/support/faq.us.asp?k=deep+sleep

So from what I understand by default there is a setting on ASRock MOBOs that keep usb power to some of the USB ports, by turning that off it fixes the issue, or it’s the other way around and it isn’t on. It says disabled in the BIOS but it said on a separate forum that it was on by default. So changing the “Deep sleep” option in the ACPI configuration to “Enabled in S5” it fixed it. Hopefully this helps someone else down the road.

When I try to shut it down through start menu it will not shutdown properly. The screen turns off but the fans and LEDs on MOBO, fans stay. same thing happens if i push the power button on the case. Then i have to hold the power button and force shut down. If I restart the computer it will take 3-5 mins to start back up. If it goes to sleep it will not wake with button press/mouse movement. I think it started doing this after i updated the BIOS. I have tried what I have found around the internet for common fixes but nothing have worked. I tried turning off windows quick shutdown, this was said to be the most common fix but didn't work. I have tried scanning for corrupt files through CMD. I have tried the windows troubleshooter as was recommended and it didn't work like usual. I don't think i have ever had a problem fixed with the windows troubleshooter. I have tried changing a few BIOS setting and I have had no luck with any of those.

Windows 10

MOBO: ASRock B550 PG Velocita BIOS version P2.00

GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 2GB

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 4500

I have put in a ticket with ASRock for some help but I wanted to also post here to see if anyone else can help. I don't know what else to do, please help.

Edit: I built the computer recently and it wasn’t doing this for quite awhile. I updated the BIOS through ASRocks APP store. I believe that is when this started.

I would try turning off fast start up if you haven’t yet. Unsure if that’s what you meant by “fast shut down”.

@Llbalance, in addition to what @TylerD321mentioned, I've found Ryzen and supporting boards to be fussy about RAM (as in I generally recommend going by the board's QVL), and I've also found Win10 sleep mode to cause issues as well. My 5900X / B550 rig did some really crazy stuff because it didn't like the first kit of RAM I used. While the RAM solved 99.99% of my problem, some minor annoyances continued until I disabled Windows sleep mode.

I did quite a bit of research on everything I put together for the rig, so I don’t think it is the ram but I can check the ram. I have some other ram in my other computer using same MOBO almost same CPU that I have had zero problems with so I will give it a try.

So I changed the ram over to the ram I had in my other build that has same MOBO, close CPU and it did not fix the issue.

It was worth a shot if you had other RAM to test. Might see if the other set is on the QVL either.

It does actually shut down if you wait about 10 minutes, you have to turn off fast startup and go to change plan settings at power, change advanced settings and disable hybrid sleep. It happened to me before and this solution didn't really fix it but try it, if it doesn't work just reinstall windows but backup your stuff to an external drive.

I had it off and tried to turn it off and went to bed to see if it would and it was on in the morning still.
