Certain apps and games make my pc lagging when I alt tab or use Windows key

Hi everybody, 

 

Whenever I use specific apps or games and use The alt tab or Windows key to go to a different app option my pc stutters enormously and is unuseable. For example: when I play fortnite and I go to Chrome with alt tab The system has a 1 fps framerate. Or when I open edge or the steam shop same problem occurs. I need to close edge, with steam same issue becuase the mouse is hovering with 1 fps. It only happens with specific apps, thats why I think its so strange. 

 

It happens in Windows 10. I updated to Windows 11 and in Edge The lag was even worse. For The record, I use Chrome and Brave but using edge is for testing purposes. I have reinstalled Fortnite, same problem. I have downgraded back to Windows 10, stil the same issue. But also when I open steam shop and certain video tries to play itself the lagging starts. I have no Black screen or what ever. However, if I switch to Windowed mode in fortnite for example, its unplayable as well. 

 

Before I do a clean Windows installation I am curious if there is something else I can do to find out what causes the issue. Thanks.

Don't know the specs.

 

There are two solutions; playing in borderless windowed mode and throwing more money at the PC; your choice.

Ho thanks for the reply. My specs are pretty decent:

 

B550 aorus elite v2, Ryzen 5 5600x, rx 6750, 32gb crucial ballistix, crucial p5 plus 1tb. 

 

I tries borderless Windowed mode, same result

Try disabling Hardware Acceleration in the browsers you use.

 

Using the latest Bios version for the board and the latest chipset drivers downloaded directly from AMD?

Thanks for the reply. In fortnite I cannot disable hardware acceleration. And yes, I have updated my bios and drivers to the latest version. 

It seems that I am going to do a clean Windows 10 install for now.

Wow, really? I did not know that, thanks! 

But in all seriousness: did you read what the post is about? Alt tabbing from apps/games like Fortnite or using the Windowed version makes my pc go crazy.

If you are using a browser to switch to, and the browser uses hardware acceleration, if you're switching (alt-tabbing) to watch a video or something, the GPU has to switch to the decoder and that might cause stuttering.

 

But, I understand, you are a typical Fortnite player, so I rest my case. No help of mine needed, my time is more valuable.

Sure, If you base your entire opinion on one example, then you are one pathetic human being. But on the other hand, if this means you aren't going to reply on my topic anymore, then please spend you valuable time on reading "How to be a complete piece of sh#t", you have my blessing and my sympathy. And good luck with "helping" others.

I made this account just to say thanks for saving my sanity. I have decent build and experienced lag when having game up and browser typically. I wiped everything out after trying for a week to figure it out and all it took was 5 seconds after reading this post.
