You obviously have a bottleneck, I immediately thought, depending on the GPU, you'd not have enough PCIe lanes for the SSD to run at full speed, but your SSD is running on SATA.

You should post your full PC specs, OS and everything, including how many other drives you have.

Also, depending on your GPU, you may just be better off using an M.2 Drive, as your board supports it.

I highly recommend you get yourself an NVMe M.2 drive. Your MB supports it, so a Samsung 970 will likely work wonders for you -

I don't know what kind of budget you have to live under, but a 2TB 970 Evo Plus is on sale for $199 on Amazon ($300 off), you don't want a 980 as you don't have PCIe 4.

Now once you put the new drive in, you can do a clone with Macrium Reflect for free, once you are loaded into the 2TB as the boot drive, you can format the 860, then reinstall your games there, create a new Steam Library (or whatever you use) on there for your less played games.

Your entire system should see a decent performance boost, because NVMe PCIe is definitely faster than a SATA connection

To dhis:

Ant dhis:

Also, free up more space. You need at least 100GB free on a 1TB SSD for it to work properly.

Having less than that not only decreases the performance but also decreases the lifetime expectancy of the drive.

For example, you can move the Downloads folder to a different drive. -.-

After that do this:

Editing - I assumed you were USD, did not understand NZD for you, sorry. Use CamelCamelCamel to put a price watch on the item and get an email when it drops to something you can afford. Leaving the rest as is.

Wrong one

That is the one you want - if you cannot afford it now, keep it on a Wishlist for later, do the cleanup others have recommended to improve the situation, it will be a nice upgrade for you when you have the chance, may go lower during "Prime day" but this is the lowest it has been (was a few dollars cheaper on 4/1) almost ever.
