I wanted to post to see if anyone has discovered the same issue, and more importantly, if a fix for this exists.

I am getting some pretty f***ing annoying microstutters down to 0 FPS with SVM enabled. This occurs in every game, but it hurts the most in Valorant where those split seconds actually matter.

For some context, SVM is AMD's virtualization setting. This is disabled in most BIOS by default, including my own X570 tomahawk. I've tried just about every BIOS version, and it occurs on each and every one I'm able to actually use with my 5900X.

I need SVM enabled in order to do my work with WSL, and having to go into BIOS each and every time I switch between "I want to play Valorant" mode and "I want to do work" mode is EXTREMELY annoying.

Things I've noticed:

  • When SVM is enabled, these microstutters occur sporadically, but typically whenever someone shoots or uses an ability you notice them.

  • This correlates with an instantaneous frame drop to 0 FPS, and an increased CPU frame time from ~1 ms to ~6ms.

  • Physical memory will go from it's typical usage on my PC to Valorant seemingly freeing up all of the memory (~8gb available to ~20GB available)

  • This is extremely reproducible.

@codeLilac I know the thread is a bit old, but I am seeing same thing! Have been stumped trying to find a solution that does not require turning off SVM.

I'm using similar hardware as you - MSI X570 GAMING PRO CARBON WIFI and 5950X.

Have you tried submitting a repro with Windows Feedback? This is super frustrating while playing!
