Which Nvidia RTX technologies do and do not work on Arch-based Linux distros, specifically Artix with OpenRC? Or just with Linux overall?

I know of DLSS and Ray Tracing having issues, but it's hard to catalog all of the different algorithms and features that are employed by RTX cards, their interactions with Windows 10/11 and their subsequent interactions with Linux.

Thanks for any input.

I'll try to be accurate but I don't have an Nvidia GPU and this stuff is changing constantly.

The GPU will work with the 470 series drivers.

G Sync does have support (though I believe it can be hit or miss)

Nvidia Image Scaling works (as does AMDs FSR)

RT and DLSS apparently both work well. Both REQUIRE the Nvidia proprietary blob.

HDR support is non existent on Linux.

Wayland support is sketchy on Nvidia hardware. It works but has issues.

Main Rig:-

Server:-

Intel NUC running Server 2019 + Synology DSM218+ with 2 x 4TB Toshiba NAS Ready HDDs (RAID0)

So in your opinion would HDR and possibly Wayland be worth it anyways? Mostly playing Cyberpunk 2077 and Watch Dogs: Legion.

For HDR, you need a monitor that supports it anyway and FTR, its not an Nvidia specific issue. HDR support is totally missing from Linux no matter what hardware.

Wayland is not essential yet but its getting that way. Luckily the issues mostly stem from Nvidias proprietary driver implementation and Nvidia are actively working on improving support. My understanding is that 470 made things MUCH better though still not perfect.

The good thing about Wayland is it can happily coexist with X11 (and there's actually a translation app call XWayland that will run native X11 apps on Wayland) meaning you can have both installed and if Wayland causes you issues then simply log out, swap to an X session and log back in.
