Hey guys new to the forum this is super common but whats a cheap video card (new or used) that is pretty powerful also is and alienware m14x i7 32gb ssd 500gb hdd nvidia gt650 2bg optimus worth it im getting one for 900 bucks army discount and small business discount from my friends dad.

Depends on what you define as powerful? Are you going to be playing FPS games like Battlefield 3 or ARMA, or just playing regular games like LOL or Dota?

 

As for your Alienware question, I say no. There are plenty of better alternatives out there besides them. Like for example ASUS or MSI.

playing farcry 2 1080p as well as halo 2 gta iv starforge beta and source games.

The Gt 650 is a great graphics card and an I7, no matter what variant  would be good. If it has a 600 series gpu in it, I would assume it is ivy bridge 3770 or 3770k, so that is great for a gaming computer. 32 gb of ram is solid, as well as a 500 gb hard drive will be great for storing games, despite the idiosyncrasy of having a hard drive for gaming, it really does not make much of a difference when you have the game loaded up (all it does is simply make levels or maps load up quicker). If I would make one recomendation when you get it, it would be to swap out the graphics card with say a 7850, because you got a good comp for cheap and you might as well give that cpu a 200$ graphics card that will drive it well. If you want an Nvidia card, get a 660. The difference between the two is one is 215$ and one is 200$, but they perform quite differently. One has CUDA and the other one just has stream processors. What this means is that the one with Stream Processors is the one that will do well in games, while the CUDA cores in the nvidia card will of course perform optimally in games as well as other types of 3D applications, such as video editing, 3d modeling, etc. If you are intrested you can look more into CUDA cores vs stream processors on you own.
