Budget (including currency): ~ €3000-3500

Country: The Netherlands

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: 4K Video editing; Games like: Warzone, AC: Valhalla, Red Dead Redemption 2, etc.

Hello everyone,

I wanted to share my build, and hear you guys' opinions on whether it's good or not.

And if there are some points of improvements, please do tell them and possibly recommend the part that's better suited.

And I also have another question. Is it worth waiting for the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales?

The only parts that I'm not 100% certain about are the GPU, PSU and motherboard.

  • GPU: I was thinking about the MSI Radeon RX 6900 XT GAMING X TRIO 16G. But I'm not sure whether it's worth the price or not. It's around €1600-1700 in the Netherlands. Should I wait for better prices?
  • PSU: A friend of mine recommended me the Corsair RM1000x. But is the 1000w really needed? I was more thinking about the Cooler Master MWE Gold 750 Full Modular V2.
  • Motherboard: I was thinking about an X570 board with WiFi. But I'm not certain which one.

I mainly want to use this PC for 4K editing and gaming on high fps and graphics.

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X --- ~ €509,-
  • CPU Cooler: Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 --- ~ €69,90
  • GPU: ---
  • Case: Fractal Design Meshify 2 Compact Black TG Light Tint Midi Tower --- ~ €105,-
  • RAM: Corsair DDR4 Vengeance LPX 2x16GB 3600 Mhz --- ~ €137,90
  • PSU: ---
  • Storage: Samsung 980 PRO 1TB M.2 SSD --- ~ €160,60 + (The ones I already have. ~800 GB HDD in total)
  • Motherboard: ---

Nvidia apparently could better for productivity orientated tasks.

For cooling Meshify-2 (not Compact) may be a good option. I do not see much in that department - what kind of cooler do you plan to use, etc?

For PSU 750W can be tight, 850W should be more or less enough, unless you plan heavy overclocks or more GPUs. Say you may go for a Seasonic Prime TX 850 or something on those lines, depending on prices.

Current system. CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X; MoBo: Gigabyte X570S Aorus Master; RAM: 2x Crucial Ballistix MAX 2x8 GB (BLM2K8G40C18U4B); GPU: RX 6900 XT Gigabyte Aorus Master; case: Fractal Design Meshify-2; Storage: Samsung 980PRO 1TB NVMe SSD + 2x Samsung 980 1TB NVMe SSD; PSU: Seasonic Focus GX-850; Cooling: Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360.

Isn't NVIDIA also way more expensive?

And for the case, does the GPU, I've chosen, fit?

You may want to look for your local prices, I have seen 3080ti on Amazon.de for 1600 (ordered one myself, didn't get it dispatched yet 😞 ).

You can always check how long your GPU is on the manufacturer website for a given model and compare with the compatibility list for the chosen case. Meshify-2 I think is a decent option, depending on price, availability etc, and I think it would fit more or less any GPU you can buy.

Cooling is something your probably want to consider.

While good cases (ie Meshify-2, but there are many others, I would suggest looking into Gamers Nexus content on youtube for this) are going to come with enough fans adding more may be something to consider down the road, depending on your experience.

However what I find concerning is the lack of mention for the CPU cooler. Sure even a stock cooler is going to keep your chosen CPU from melting, but I doubt you are going to get all the performance out of it. For this you may want to look for say a good air cooler Noctua NH-D15 series would be a safe option, but you may want to optimise your choice, for best value.

Doesn't the Dark Rock Pro 4 have better cooling than the Noctua NH-D15? I'm not sure though.

Sorry, I guess I missed it. Be-quiet is another good brand.

That's alright.

So you would recommend the Meshify 2 over the compact version?

And is the i9-11900K a better option? For example, combined with a 3080-Ti

In my understanding Ryzens have better performance in work related applications.

I have mentioned Gamers Nexus above, they have some good videos and benchmarks, so you could see the performance specifics and go from there.

Alright, thank you! I'll go check it out.

And do you also know which PSU and motherboard I should be considering?

As I have mentioned Seasonic Prime TX-850 would be a safe option, if maybe not the best value.

For the motherboard - beyond compatibility with the CPU you are looking at the features such as the connectivity and so on, as most mid to high motherboards would provide more than enough power, etc for the CPU. Maybe an X570S Aero G, as it would have enough PCI-E gen 4 storage for your editing needs and many other features.

Otherwise - it is ok to go lower, ie if you only plan to use one PCI-E gen 4 drive you can go to B550.
