19" rackmount case

So I'm looking for a specialist case and I figured where better to ask. The price doesn't really bother me but the cheaper the better.

Now this is where it gets complicated..

  • Max depth of 550mm - this I'm pretty sure rules out all Norco cases.
  • 2 or 3 RU prefered but will stretch to 4RU
  • 8 3.5" bays either internal or external bays
  • And as the title suggests - 19" rackmountable

If you don't know of a case that'll fit those needs but do have a suggestion for a brand name suggest it anyway - i'll take a further look into them.

Thanks in advance guys :)

I don't have any specific suggestions, but I have to ask, what is this for? And why must it be so shallow? All the racks I've dealt with are significantly longer than 550mm.

I've got my PA rack housing GEQ's and DSP and the rack can only accomodate 550mm deep units. Also the cupboard that it will all live in is only 600mm deep.

I did find the Lian Li PC-C32 but it may require some modding to fit all the drives in.

Gotchya... kinda... (I don't know what any of those acronyms mean)

Anyway, I've been looking through all of the 2U and 3U chassis on supermicro's site and so far I haven't found any that meet your criteria.

This one is decidedly shallow enough but it doesn't fit all the drives you want natively. I suppose you could use a small-ish board and mod the case to fit more drives.

And here's another one http://www.supermicro.com/products/chassis/4U/842/SC842i-500.cfm

This one's 4U and a bit under 550mm long, but again not enough drive space. The 4U of hight would give you more room for internal modding to fit drives though.

That's could work - wouldn't have to mod anything as I can use 5.25" adapters.

Thanks for suggestions - keep 'em comming folks - 'tis appreciated :)

  • 2 months later...

Some of Silverstone's Grandia series like the G08 http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=331&area=en will (with a bracket Silverstone sells http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=346&area=en

) rackmount, 425mm deep, 8hdds and it looks nice (cheap too). only disadvantage is that it is tall (4u) but this would be my personal choice. most of (maybe all) the Grandia cases are rackmountable

I bought the GD08 for this exact reason. You can fit ALOT of drives in them. think i have 10 atm.
