Ok after about a year or so at looking into increasing the storage of my iPod classic currently 120gb and after seeing some of the HDD replacement guides it looked more trouble that it's worth. So now I'm thinking since you can get all of the parts for an ipod for repairs why not just build one with a custom case so i have a few questions

  1. what materials would i be limited too could i maybe use wood?
  2. could i make the storage hot swapable?
  3. could i make the battery replaceable on the fly so i can carry more than one with me?
  4. would an ssd use less or more power?
  5. what other limitations would i face in this project

I may have more to add to this depending what i learn from the replies so more questions still to come and thanks for any and all input.!

Don't use an SSD.

The battery is very specif and has electronics right on it so I wouldn't recommend doing it unless you know what your doing.

No hot swap storage, needs to be supported by device.

Here's how to build cases for electronics.
