I upgraded my cpu from a Ryzen 5 3600 to a Ryzen 7 5800x on a b450 motherboard (asrock steel legend). Naturally I updated my Bios before i put the new cpu in. Afterwards I even made sure to have updated to the right driver version. And then basically the title happened. However even after I put my old Cpu in the mb, the pc wouldn`t start. Funnily enough some rgb parts which get their power of the mb have their lights on. After making sure the cables are all connected, I`m confused what the problem is. So I`m going to temporarily buy a b550 motherboard to test the cpus (and than maybe keep or return it). Do you have any similar experiences or ideas for troubleshooting?

My only theories are:

1. I had some problems with removing the tower cooly smoothly and than there is the chance of static electricity frying the components (I made sure to discharge myself, but than stupidly touched a carpet with my trousers). However the Cpus and the motherboard don`t look physically damaged (the pins aren`t bent).

2. I`m unsure if my cpu socket should look like it does now (look at picture). Basically almost all of the small socket holes have metal bits under/in it to connect with cpu pins. All but a few in down left corner. Shouldn`t all these small holes have (visible) metal bits in them?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Have you tried clearing the CMOS? I don't see anything wrong with the socket.  Did you check compatibility with the motherboard before updating to a 5800x processor?

These bits of metal in the socket are the female side of the pins; they are what make contact with your chipset.  Also try using only 1 stick of ram and keeping it stock when you load the system the first time (hench clearing the CMOS).

No I haven't cleared the cmos yet. And I should try the one ram stick method, I have read it few times by now. I'm going to update tomorrow as I'm going to sleep now.
