Gt 740 Help

Ok so I do not know if I am dumb or what but I have a GT 740 4gb and it only seems to be using 1gb on any game I play. It will never go above 1gb and I do not know if it supposed to do that or not. If you could explain it to me that would be very much appreciated.

 

Ryzen 7 1700

GT 740 4gb

16gb ddr4 3000mhz

ASRock Fatal1ty B450 GAMING K4

Evga 450 W3
