Black screen on boot

Hi there,

 

I was just uninstalling some old programs from my system, and Windows told me I needed to reboot to apply some changes.  I rebooted my PC, and I am stuck on a black screen.  If I move my mouse, I can see my cursor flicker on the screen.  I have tried to boot into safe mode (by spamming F8) but I cannot seem to get anywhere.  :unsure: 

 

Does anyone know what is up?

 

Edit: My system does POST, and I see the spinning Windows logo.  After the logo goes way, the screen remains black.

You've lost me.  My default drive is my OS drive, and I can see that my computer is booting to Windows, however I just get a black screen when past the boot up stage
