Just wanted to see if anyone ever had issues with the memory controller on XEON 5000 series processors. Specifically the X5660 model.

I have a Z600 and when I upgraded the CPU's from E5606 to X5660 it gave me 203-204 errors. I first through it was the mother board, but when I do swap outs the errors duplicate on both boards. And when I put the E5606 back in the memory modules.

Now I have two X5660 and one shows up and posts fine, but the other shows memory ERR on all three channels. On this CPU I noticed the indents on the pads much deeper then the ones working. I was wondering if fixing or applying a little more pressure would maybe get it to work, or if their was any remedies people found. If not I'll simply go back to my old set until I can find another CPU set to try and upgrade to.

Note: I have tried two motherboards, 2 different sets of RAM (both ECC and non-ECC) and its always the same errors on the same CPU regardless of board or slot.

Cheers.

Allan
