Hello,

I am creating this topic for a bit of guidance with the issue I'm getting with the latest GeForce driver (460.89) and (460.79), or to see if anyone else has had the same problem.

So, after updating to the latest driver, all seems well. But within a minute of the driver being installed both of my screens start to flicker on and off, and eventually, showing different colours (ie, blue, yellow. Basically the colours you can choose in Windows) and system fans ramping up to full speed, only a hard reset will get me back to the desktop. With the occasional blue screen for good measure.

It appears to me as if the driver is crashing.

I've used DDU to remove all traced of current and previous drivers installed on my PC, with no luck.

The (457.51) driver works with no issues.

Has anyone else come across this issue? or have any ideas as to what may be causing it?

Cheers in advanced. Extra system info below.

After some extra research and help from a friend, we both found a fix for this issue.

Had to set the power management to "prefer maximum performance", all seems well so far.

I'm afraid to restart my computer to test this without confirmation.  I think I'm having the same issues.  It initially was an issue with FPS, causing a game I usually run at 100fps to run at 30.  Thinking maybe a restart would help, I restarted and within a minute or two, both monitors went blank with one showing a random, solid color.  Happened two times just now before it let me use my computer again.  This about the same you ran into?

Also, the power management side you're referring to, are you just talking through Windows 10?  Mine has always been at "High Performance" as far as power goes.

I think he means in the NVIDIA Control Panel under the 'Manage 3D settings' section and the 'Power management mode' setting.

Ah, OK.  I did think of that shortly after the post and have made that adjustment also.  Thanks for looking out though!

Turns out I suck at looking at notifications, sorry for the late reply!

I was indeed referring to the power management within the Nvidia Control Panel, this did work for a bit before my monitors started flickering, the same as you we're referring to.

I ended up going back to 457.51, I'm going to be trying the next release of drivers to see if it's any better (whenever those are released).

Looks like it is an issue with 1080Ti's, so compatibility and stability is a concern for me at this point in time. Seeing as I can't et my hands on a non-scalped RTX 3080 in the UK 😔
