550 mobo to combo with 5800xt and 5 series CPU worth upgrading?

jerkwagon

Mostly gaming,

current rig

1080ti

b450 with 32gb ram

3600x (yes i know the x is waste of money but it was cheaper than the non x)

i want to upgrade the GPU for 4k/60  or 1440p/144hz.

Does having a 500 series board with 6000 series GPU and 5000 CPU do anything special ?  also might add pcie 4x nvme.

I know the 3600x /450 wont have much problems. but does the combo above have any special powers? (rage mode etc)

Ryzen 5 -5600x

ASUS x570

EVGA 3080 XC3

4x8gb 3600 mhz XPG

Your 3600X already supports PCIe 4.0.

The 5000 series, to put it simplish, makes gaming better as games prefer single-core speed vs. multiple cores.

Unless you have money to burn and want that ~10-15% performance boost, stick with your 3600X.

For a 6000 series GPU, probably a 6800 XT for 4K60. For 1440p144, a 6800 might do it, but a 6800 XT will be better. (I think - I don't know much about AMD cards)/

To take advantage of PCIe 4.0, you will need a 500 series chipset motherboard.

While the 6800 XT does use it, it is fully capable of using a 3.0 x16 link with almost no performance loss (again, I think).

So unless you want PCIe 4.0 and a better CPU for future proofing or something, you should be good to just upgrade your GPU.

Thanks, money isnt an issue, def gonna get 6800xt or 3080 (waiting for benchmarks) but would rather go AMD..  we shall see what black friday brings us i guess.
