So, a few years ago I made the mistake of buying my first PC as a prebuilt. This prebuilt came with an i7-7700K and GTX 1080. I want to game reliably at 1440p, 144Hz. I have a budget of $3,000 CAD. The motherboard in there now has no expand-ability and limits my RAM speed quite a bit (ASRock H110m-ds/hyper). I would also like to put in bluetooth/NVME drive etc.

I am thinking a motherboard/PSU replacement is best until the new Nvidia cards come out later this year. OR I can sell my current PC to my brother for 1k and do a new build right now. With a new build, I could use my current SSDs(1TB/256GB) and RAM (16GB 3000MHz).

What do y'all suggest? Any recommendations welcome!

This build is less money than the build you sold to your brother, but it’s better

If you need ray tracing right now, and can’t wait, then you’ll spend 150 more for a 2070 super. Apparently Navi GPUs could have Ray tracing by December if you install the right drivers. There was an article on it but I don’t have it right now.

Thanks for the replies! I am a gamer primarily, and have heard you get better frame rates out of intel... If the new I7-10700K pushes the prices of the 3700X down then I may go AMD. Otherwise I might go with the new i7 as it is essentially a cheaper i9-9900K. MSRP may vary i suppose. My hesitation with going for a new build is the insane prices on graphics cards in Canada. I can't get a 2080ti below 1700 dollars, and people are saying it's not worth the upgrade right now from a 1080. At least until the 3k Nvidia cards come out I can stay with my 1080 and just replace the CPU/MOBO.
