Hey guys.

So the other day my sister decided she wants to join the glorious PC Mustard Race. I've been tasked with building her a computer and selecting the parts.

A few things that should be taken into account.

1. I live in Australia so prices are different here. (AMD GPU's aren't nearly as inflated as they are in America. Therefore they tend to be the best price/performance.)

2. The build is going to be black and light blue themed.

3. She wants a good computer that isn't going to be lacking for all the latest games on Ultra @ 1080p.

4. She hasn't put a limit on the total cost of the build, but obviously doesn't want to go overboard. I'll probably be getting the best price/performance parts.

5. The store the parts will be purchased from is PCCaseGear and Umart, they don't stock every part under the sun so some recommendations wont be possible.

Now that that's said and done, onto the parts.

CASE - Thermaltake Core V71 - $200

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=26886

This case seems to be quite new so I hadn't heard much about it, but my sister spent a couple hours looking at cases and this took her fancy. She seems to not like most of the Fractal/NZXT/Corsair Cases are they are too "Plain".

Motherboard - ASRock Z87-PRO4 - $139

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=138_1491&products_id=23625

This motherboard is at a rather cheap price point but has all the features I imagine she will need, with the possibility for Crossfire/SLI in the future. I'm very open to recommendations however.

CPU - i5-4670k - $279

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=187_1490&products_id=23495

She won't require an i7 4770k as she will be mostly gaming on this system, and this just seems to be the best option without skimping on the CPU.

RAM - Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz - $115

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=186_218&products_id=16848

Good quality ram, she wont need more then 8gb. And its blue :)

GPU - Sapphire Radeon R9 280X OC Vapor-X 3GB - $415

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=193_1559&products_id=25327

I was originally thinking of getting an R9 290 for her, but really now. a R9 280x should be able to achieve 60fps on Max Details @ 1080p for now. I really wish to know which version of the R9 280x I should go for? Sapphire Vapor? XFX? Sapphire Toxic? What is the best cooler? :)

HDD - Seagate Barracuda 2TB - $99

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=210_344&products_id=19554

This is the best GB/$ HDD available at the store and is plenty for all her games/music/movies. :)

PSU - Corsair RM750 - $189

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15_535&products_id=25690

I've had good experience with the RM series in the past, and 750W should be enough to Crossfire/sli in the future. Of course I am open to recommendations.

CPU Cooler -  Corsair H80i - $135

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=207_23&products_id=22308

The reason for watercooling the cpu is simply for aesthetics, she doesn't want a bulky Noctua fan sitting there and would rather a nice corsair led. Although perhaps there would be a better option for Watercooling in this particular case.

Wireless Network Adapter - TP-Link TL-WN951N - $29

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=200_328&products_id=7823

She can't run a cable into her room so wireless is needed. I've used this particular Adapter before and it should have adequate range.

Optical Drive - ASUS DRW-24D3ST 24x DVD Writer - $24

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=658_667&products_id=24330

She has a lot of CD's for music and movies so she wanted to pick one of these up.

Total = 1209 Without GPU, 1600ish with GPU depending on which one of course.

Anyway, that's what I'm currently thinking, However I need some advice on which 280x I should go for, I'm also not 100% sure on the Mobo and PSU. So any and all recommendations will be appreciated.

I feel like the PSU is a bit much but other then that you're fine. I'm sure you could do better p2p but you've done a fine job so far. I'm not familiar with Aus pricing and i feel crappy all of a sudden so I don't feel like doing a comparison check right now. Hopefully someone else has you.

Asrock and Asus are the two Mobo companies I see used the most.

Yeah it was just for the possibility of Crossfire in the future.

Get a BeQuiet Shadow Rock or something to cool the CPU and add a SSD. H80i isn't that awesome and you'll get equal performance for 1/3 of the price ;) So you can fit a SSD.

It is very tempting, but they don't sell the BeQuiet Shadow Rock here. I'll have to do some looking around to see which is the best available.

Try for a Noctua NH-D14 or Silver Arrow.
