Dated PC Looking for upgrade routes.

So I'm running at 3930K @ 4.5ghz on a Rampage IV Extreme board that I want to keep as I haven't had any issues with them; but have GTX 680s in SLI (DirectCu ii 2gb models) and 4x 4gb Ripjaws x DDR3 1600 (16GB total) for my ram

was wondering what some reasonable upgrades could be made that the performance would increase for a lot of games I play, still get 140fps in quite a few games, but some peak at 80fps on Med/High settings with some fps jumps and drops.

What're your guys' thoughts before I go and splurge on parts and find out there's specific bottlenecks, mostly just wanting to free up some PCI-e slots at the moment as my cards are 3 slot cards each...

depends on the games. At the moment, a pretty economical upgrade would be a 1660 super which would provide a small increase in games which scale with SLI pretty well and would provide a huge increase in cases with poor scaling.

Are you looking for a bigger GPU upgrade now and then move into a better CPU soonish?

 

Or do you want a GPU that fits your CPU reasonably, and then upgrade the whole shot in a few years?

mostly havent had any complications with my CPU/Board combo, but will have to soon upgrade board, only really looking for Reasonable graphics cards and possibly ram upgrades, board is definitely showing its age as onboard sound is just dead so using a USB 3 external sound card, and card sizes don't bother me as I have a Silverstone FT02 Case. and have a Corsair AX 1200W power supply so power wouldn't really be a limiter. Just pondering bottlenecks and whatnot versus CPU even if it is overclocked to 4.5GHz on all 6 cores over its 3.2GHz base clock

Power draw is definitely crazy on these parts as theyre a bit outdated, and thats another afterthought.

195 W per card and 153W base clocked CPU before overclock is a heck of a punch in the face for power use.

For a ram upgrade, your memory bandwidth on that old HEDT board is hardly bad, the only thing I could think of would be to go after some lower latency kits if you really wanted to.

I'd probably look at a used 1070 for under $200 and then sell the whole machine in a couple years, as my gut says Intel will produce something serious in a couple.  

 

Intel has to be working on a punch back at AMD currently, I can't see them laying down.  So we get AMD's next next gen stuff which should be great as we're seeing currently, and we potentially get an Intel comeback CPU on 10nm or 7nm I bet.

 

Either way you can't go wrong.

Well definitely could upgrade my ram, timings are a little slow at 11-11-11-28, but definitely thinking about a new graphics card then upgrading rest of system later, with tax returns coming around can probably do majority of needed upgrades.
