Well you're losing out on ~1/4 of your potential storage by splitting it up into 2 drives, I do personally think it's nice to have 1 drive dedicated to the operating system, and another drive for games/media/ and other software that doesn't require an "installer" which writes to your registry.

--I actually have:

      -1 250gb ssd for os

      -1 500gb ssd for games

      -1 2tb hdd for etc/backups/media

--It was built years ago and the 1tb+ ssds were way too expensive--

This way you can always reinstall windows with minimal impact on the rest of your downloads.

But if you just need the storage space or don't mind reinstalling a few more things in the event of needing to clean install, go with the single 2tb drive.

Agree with NinJake above...any small SSD for OS...then a 2nd, preferably the fastest SSD you can afford, for games...then any potato drive for movies/music/pictures.

My rig:

Samsung 850 Pro 256gb for OS & benching apps.

Samsung 970 EVO Plus 250gb for games.

2x HP 1tb HDD 7200rpm in raid1 for anything else basically.

Would a single 2tb NVMe perform better than what I have...absolutely, but then when the OS sh!ts the bed -or- drive fails now you have a lot more rebuild time on your hands assuming you have backups.
