The most GPU and CPU intensive game I plan on playing is BeamNG Drive, so would i be able to pick up say a t3600/5500 and build on that?

(prefered budget under $500)

Im trying to upgrade from my current rig:

I5 2500k

12gb  ddr3 1600mhz (only runs at 1333)

Dell optiplex 390 mobo

240gb ssd, 500gb wd blue, 500gb Hitachi

Gt 1030 (i know)

If you can get a 12c/24t system with a base clock in the mid 3ghz range using Sandy Bridge or newer, you will get sufficient performance to drive something like a 970/980/1060/1660 or 290/390/480/580.

Your worst enemy with cheap workstations is the abysmally low CPU clocks.  You need a 3.4ghz+ Sandy based CPU for pretty much any GPU faster than a 1050 Ti.
