Motherboard socket question

So, I was trying to search on Google because I'd like to know if motherboards designed for 8th gen processors are backwards compatible, my motherboard just broke and I need a replacement knowing that I have an 6th gen I7 is it possible for my processor to work with a motherboard with the same model of socket(already saw some)?

they are not compatible despite the same socket, you need 100/200 series motherboard for 6th gen intel(z170, b250 etc)

Your 6th Gen CPU will work with any motherboard that has LGA1151 socket and has 100/200 series chipset. 6th gen CPU are not compatible with motherboards using the 300 series chipset

afaik z370/z390 only works with 8th and 9th gen, only 100 and 200 series boards work with 6th gen

My guess is that he misspelled the last sentence and he meant that 300 series chipsets are not compatible but let's wait for him to clarify, anyway thanks for the info guys I really couldn't find anything in Google (maybe I was searching the wrong keywords)
