Computer Fails to Start.

I am having a problem with my computer that I've never had before. I try to start it by pressing the power button, nothing happens. I turn off the power supply, then turn it back on and this is where it get's weird. Everything turns on(fans and such) and the 5 seconds later everything shuts off, but the lights for the motherboard and gpu are still on. Also, while it automatically turns on, there's a red light that turns on(MemOK!) light I believe. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

System Specs: Asus m5A97 R2.0 mobo

AMD FX-6300

Asus gtx 660

2x4gb of G.Skill ripjaw x memory

Corsair CX600 PSU

Seagate barracuda 1tb harddrive

try jump-starting your psu and if the psu is ok then try running only the cpu mobo and psu so no ram or gpu or drives

So I tried the CMOS battery, replaced it and it is still doing the thing.

what do you mean by jump starting my psu?

Sorry I couldn't be of any more help. I'll try looking into it more for you.

It was still helpful! Never knew that little thing was there! I'm going to research more, maybe stop in a local shop, but it'll be a while, have a calculus test.

So I tried the CMOS battery, replaced it and it is still doing the thing.

Could be a ram issue. Try taking your ram sticks out and re-installing them. I know it sounds stupid but they could not be properly seated.

 

If that doesn't work, try only one stick of ram.

 

If that doesn't work, try the other stick by itself.

 

If that doesn't work, see if you can find a stick you know to be good.

 

If that doesn't work, your ram's not the problem.

I would try repeating everything. Just take out your ram, cpu, and GPU and see if it posts after that.

So I went to Best Buy(all local shops were closed) since I didn't have an extra psu or ram to test. So we took everything out one component at a time and it still wouldn't work. So it has to be the motherboard right?

And if it is, RMA it?

So I did more research and I believe it is the motherboard.  Somehow static went through the power button and fried my motherboard.  Seems like that would never happen, but it did.  Going to try and RMA it.
