I'm looking to build myself a new gaming rig that will last with me for a very very long time.

I'm quite a noob when it comes to parts (i.e. Keeping track of how things will be compatible with each other, dimensions wise and those other things...), so I tried choosing those parts to the best of my knowledge and some information from the internet and from this forum. Please let me know if there is any sort of improvement I can make. I'm also not sure if I need a wifi card and a sound card because idk if the wifi comes from somewhere else already and idk if I need a sound card to use headsets (yeah excuse me for being a total noob.) I also want to know how good this build is, airflow wise (I don't want it ever getting hot on me) and cable management and ease of build (since this would be my first time ever touching a pc part so...). Thanks in advance.

Oh and...

1. Budget & Location

Somewhere around 3000USD. US ofc.

2. Aim

Heavy gaming

3. Monitors

Only 1 for now, and I will definitely buy another one not a very long time after building the PC.

4. Peripherals

Well sure I want some good gaming peripherals, but I think I did a pretty good job choosing them already.

5. Why are you upgrading?

Cuz my current laptop can barely run Minecraft, and I'm looking for heavy gaming on 4K and whatever.

sound card is unnecessary, get an ethernet cable to your rig if possible.

Not to be rude, but how is your budget 3 grand but you don't know the difference between LAN/WAN or where WiFi comes from?

  • The motherboard you chose does not have on-board WiFi. Go with a B450 or X470 Gaming Pro Carbon, or the Aorus Gaming 7 WiFi if you need WiFi
  • Sound cards are pretty useless in todays standards with how good on-board audio is for general purpose use.
  • No need for a watercooler for your 2700x, wasted money that could be put elsewhere.
  • You mention 4k gaming but listed a 1440p monitor

This build would be much better suited and saves quite a bit of money while keeping WiFi, and increasing storage by 2.5TB.

Don't listen to the guy above who recommended a 9900k for 4k gaming. At 4k you are GPU bottlenecked and no CPU will help you there. 2700x/9900k benchmarks at 4k are within margin of error.

Go with whatever keyboard and mouse you want. As for Windows key, check out cd key websites. A guy named CJ has a good one.

Linus himself says you don't need to activate Windows at all, or buy an OEM key from a website like I mentioned.

I would definitely not recommend 4K compared to 100hz 1440x3440. You’re getting 2 overpriced SSDs for seemingly no reason. I parted out a well thought out, themed build for 3000, if OP wants to get the same performance for much cheaper, I could do that too.

He said he wanted 4k in the post, so I gave him a 4k monitor. The VPN100 is not overpriced, have you been under a rock? It was just released and uses the Phison e-12 controller able to obtain speeds near 970 Evo territory. Show me a 1TB SSD with comparable speeds for cheaper. Please.

Those speeds don’t matter at all unless you’re Linus and edit 8k video frequently. For anyone else, the real world performance is the same.

Well the 2700x comes with a much better cooler and the higher clock speed is good if OP doesn’t want to overclock.

Even at 1440p a 9900k is pointless. A 2700x and 2080ti would be the sweet spot for 1440p/4k gaming. Also the X-variants in the Zen+ lineup generally perform just as well stock if not better than OC'd. The XFR2 and PBO2 are pretty good.

The wraith is as a good as a 212 evo, with the price difference you can easily get a cooler that's light years ahead of it.

The main reason to go with the 2700x over the 2700 is the better binning. It'll achieve a higher OC easier and the out of the box performance is of course better. Tom's had reviews for both chips and to get 4.2GHz on the 2700x it took 1.3785v at default LLC. The 2700 at 4.2GHz took 1.4v at LLC level 4 (which is basically 1.45v+ at load!). For all intents and purposes their 2700 should not have been clocked higher than 4.1GHz.

It's not just Tom's either. If you look at owners clubs posts you'll see more users reporting the 2700x achieving the higher OCs.
