HP microtower 500b issues

So I had a dell inspiron 15 3521 laptop that recently stopped working stopped working so I  moved the hard drive and the wifi card to my hp 500 microtower desktop. After doing this the desktop sees both the new hard drive and the wifi card. The problem is I can't get the desktop to boot from the laptop hard drive and the wifi card says it is working fine but has problems seeing wifi networks that are metres away. I think the problem is with how old the desktop is but I am no too sure. It is using a pentium e5800 and its bios revision is form 2011 and I think that is what is causing the problem but I am not too sure.

You can not boot from the laptop's Windows drive on anything but the laptop.  For the wifi card if changing ports and/or installing a driver don't help then I'd consider letting it go.
