Wifi Network Not Showing Up

Hi all,

 

New to the forum but have been watching the channel for years. :)

 

Just a quick question, I have a very old laptop and only some networks show up on it. For example, when I go to school, my school network does not show up. However, a mobile hotspot would and I can connect to that. I do have a theory but I think it may be wrong and wanted to see what a smarter community had to say before I went and tried something.
