I got a pop-up saying "USB device not recognized" when I plugged in my phone to use it's internet via USB on my computer. In device manager it says "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)". I ended up trying a few things that I found on the internet before plugging in my phone to my laptop to get the same error messages. I'm not very good at fixing issues with my phone since I haven't done anything more advanced than using the "developer settings" in a few years on android. I tried toggling USB Debugging mode on and off without results. I'm a bit lost on what to do now so I hope some of you can help me since now I don't have an internet connection on my main computer.

Make sure your phone screen is on and unlocked. I have a notification on the phone pop up when I plug it to use it as "transfer", see if you get something like that.

I had that still yesterday, while it was working, but now it doesn't show up and I can't toggle USB network sharing on from my phone. The error pops up the moment I unlock the screen or if it's already unlocked.
