Display resolution mismatch? Help!

I'm going to argue against a new GPU and say get a different monitor, all things being equal, even just to check if it will work. (Cheap 1080p HDMI monitors aren't hard to come by (at least in the US).)

 

If the monitor won't display UEFI using on-board graphics, there's nothing saying it will work with a different GPU (especially if they're both AMD).

Okay so im building a web surfing pc with aorus pro gaming b450 wifi mobo, ryzen 5 2400g, 8x2 gb of ddr4 corsair vengance @ 2400mhz, and whenever i went to bench test it i get "resolution mismatch" "change device resolution" but it did display bios for like 1/2 a second? What are my next steps how can one possibly change display settings without a display?

What is the model of display you're using? How are you connecting to it (DVI, HDMI, DP, VGA)?

What monitor do you have?

Because from what I remember, certain monitors really don't like the way the Ryzen APUs output video in the UEFI menus.

Its an old flatscreen using hdmi. Not ideal, but my monitor only has vga and my mobo doesnt. Its insignia or element i think. No drivers or anything as i cant get anything to display

The TV may just hate the output it's giving. Usually TVs (and monitors, of course) that can accept strange refresh rates and strange resolutions have better luck with PCs.

I looked up your motherboard and it doesn't support DVI-I -> Dsub, so that's out.

 

What is the exact model of monitor (or its native resolution if you happen to know it)?

 

My guess is that the monitor is something odd (like 1440×900 or 1680×1050) and the scaler inside doesn't know what to do with input that is not within a small range of acceptable resolutions (and I'm guessing UEFI resolution is 1920×1080).

Really, any normal GPU should fix it, so long as the TV you're dealing with can read an output of, something like 1024x768, likely what your UEFI on the board will default to.

Just read this now after ordering a 580 lol Yay me. Ill probably just finish the build and bring it to a friends to switch between monitors and find a resolution that works with my tv
