Hi everyone, I have this strange problem with my desktop PC. I have an ASUS PRIME Z690-P WIFI D4, this mobo has a USB-C 3.2 gen2x2 (the 20gigs one) on the backside. If I plug the iPad Pro into this USB port with any USB-C cable, the device does not show up on the Windows file manager, but it charges the device. I tried both the proprietary Apple USB-C 2.0 cable and a UGREEN 3.2 gen2 cable. So I thought the usb-c port simply didn't work, but that's not the case. If I plug on that same port a USB drive shows up and I can transfer files at around 2.5Gbit/s (limited by the USB drive). Then I thought it was the cables, but again no, the gaming controller I use works fine with that port. Then it could be the drivers not seeing the iPad as a device, but if I plug it with a USB-A to C cable it works fine. Moreover, I tried it on 2 different Windows laptops and they both work with the iPad plugged with the UGREEN usb-c cable. I also tried to restart the Apple device drivers on Windows but it didn't work. I'm going crazy trying to figure out what's the problem here, can anyone help me figure out why this thing happening? Thanks a lot, guys!

Hello, I seem to be experiencing slow USB file transfer speeds. I have a Dell Inspiron 7586 laptop. It has two USB Type-A 3.0 ports. From what I understand, USB 3.0 is supposed to have a maximum transfer speed of 600 MB/s; however, I seem to be getting a maximum of about 50 MB/s (averages about 25 MB/s). I'm transferring files to/from a SanDisk USB 3.1 Gen 2, 128 GB flash drive. I was wondering if this flash drive is backwards compatible with USB 3.0; if it is, I have no idea what's causing this. I've already tried selecting "better performance" in the device policy settings. This made no difference. If you need further information, please don't hesitate to ask. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time!

why does my mouse connects to powered usb and doesn't even fit in unpowered one? I recently bought a logitech mouse and it fits in the powered usb 3.1 but doesn't in the other one. any explanations or is my usb faulty?

I have an issue with the usb c front connector on my case and it does not seem to be compatible with my motherboard. I have the case Phantek Evolve X with 3.1 gen2 type c cable and Asus Z-390F motherboard with 3.1 gen1 connector. The thing is that the cable and connector seem to be very similar but I'm not finding internal cable for 3.1 gen1 to compare with and the cable from the case seems to fit.

Backstory So a few years back, I was forced to use an external drive to run Windows off of after my laptop's internal HDD decided to fail. I couldn't wait for a new one to arrive, so I just hooked up an external HDD loaded with Windows 8.1. The issue with this, was that the only ports available on my laptop were USB 2.0, and everything was extremely slow. The Current Scenario My new motherboard has two USB 3.1 Gen2 ports, and the speed is astonishing. But that made me start to think, "Would it be worth it to buy an external sdd and loading Windows onto it?" I currently use a hard drive, and I know it's bound to die soon, which is why I'm exploring backup options. Potential pros and cons? Would it be faster than the internal sata drive I have already?

source: http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20161110PD210.html if Intel will actually go beyond rumor and actually do it, 3rd party manufacturers will be hit hard these manufacturers will have to offer chips with functions the PCH does not offer, or they will become extinct; I won't shed a tear if AsMedia bites the dust

First of all, I Didn't know which category should I put this post "Motherboards, Storage, or General". if someone from the admin forgive me for that and if he/she transfer it to proper category. second of all, I'm one of Linus Tech Fan which I always watch there videos and always take there recommendations. Thanks a lot for everything. Most of my knowledge of the Tech is because of you guys. Now lets go to the subject, I have 4770K cpu and etc. and thinking to upgrade but when I feel there is something worth it (SATA 4, or full USB 3.1, or when CPU can get to above 5GHz (in boost mode) without overclocking :P) I was wondering why there is no Motherboards yet support full 3.1 Gen 2 usbs where is should be back compatible for older versions. I read somewhere that Usb 3.1 Gen 2 build-in motherboard used 2 PCIE Lanes ??? is that true ? I tried to search online and didn't find any article or video explaining this. Can someone clarify it ? or someone with Build-in USB 3.1 to see if it really consuming PCIE lanes or no. Best Regards, Rakan Tawabini Petroleum Engineer

Does anyone know faster way to transfer lots of files than connecting over crappy mtp protocol? I have Asus ZS570KL (UFS 2.0) connected over usb 3.0, Samsung 850 EVO in laptop and I'm copying 180gb of data (big and small files) to phone and it takes forever. I'd expect transfer speed closer to actual USF/SATA/USB 3.0 limit rather than pathetic 20MB/s achieved over mtp... In the past I used to copy files over NFS over wifi but now I don't have rooted phone and I don't want to root it yet so I think i need to find better way to do that. I'm using Linux on PC

Hi! Quite recently bought a mb pro touchbar version and I have been looking for a good raid storage option that supports the newer thunderbolt 3 standard. Lacie has the 6big but it is quite expensive at almost 3000 euros with the "smaller" 24TB disk option. I don't really need insane amounts of storage even 6TB would be plenty for a long time but I need redundancy AND most of all SPEED (raid 5?). How would you guys approach this issue? Have even thought about building a rig myself but I would much rather buy something that just simply works a 100% with no extra tinkering and fear that I mess up my data or can't recover when there is a HD failure at some point. I am also bias towards hardware raid issues and have my doubts about the software raid rigs because I use multiple machines in my network sometimes. So I guess my question is - Is the lacie the only option? (cons: expensive as hell) - A secondary cheaper option? - Can you buy the 6BIG with no hard drives? - Wait for a while so there's more options on the market? - Any suggestions would be great

Simple question: can I hook this card https://www.amazon.com/Rosewill-RC-509-Expansion-SuperSpeed-Connector/dp/B01MRSTZXX/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1498964139&sr=8-2&keywords=usb+type+c+pcie+card to this motherboard? https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-B350-F-GAMING/ in other words, that strix motherboard only has Type A, it doesn't have Type C so can I buy a PCIe card with Type C and connect to this motherboard or do I need a board that comes with type c? cheers

Hey everyone, So I want to get a new external hard drive. My desktop has a usb c 3.1 port where as my laptop (razer blade 2017) has a thunder 3 port. Would I be able to use the hard drive between these 2 port if it's the hard drive is setup for thunderbolt 3? I've been trying to find the answer on google but can't. Thanks in advanced!

I Recently Built My Upgrade PC, But Having Problems With My "ASUS Prime X470-Pro". ASUS has used the USB 3.1 Gen2 socket type, which I have an adapter for the front of my case, which converts it to 2 x USB 3.0 ports. Problem is, only one of the ports work, the other one is dead, not even getting power. I used an ohm meter, and all the lines on the cable are good, and am curious if anyone else is having this problem.

Hey guys, a few weeks ago I build a PC for video editing and for some reason the USB 3.1 and the front ports suddenly stops working after 40min, the rest of the PC is fine, working normally, I've searched lots of forums trying to find a solution or at least an explanation as to why this is happening but din't find anything. I've send the board back for testing once and they said the board was fine (not hardware related issue) but I did lots of testing with different drivers, old drivers, new drivers, alternative drivers and the problem still continues, can anyone help me? The PC has the following specs: RYZEN 7 2700X ASUS PRIME B450M GAMING/BR 2X8GB HYPERX FURY DDR 2400MHZ MSI AMD RADEON RX 570 ARMOR OC CORSAIR 550W 80PLUS BRONZE SSD BX500 CRUCIAL SEAGATE SKYHAWK 1TB MASTERBOX Q300L

so about a month ago i did an update on my pc (i cant remember what update, if it was a nvidia, or bios, or what cant remember) but since i did the update, my 3.1 gen 2 usb port on my asus prime z370-a stopped working. it was working perfectly fine before hand. Ive been into device manager and i don't think i can even find it. anyone got any solutions. Ive thought about doing a fresh install of windows but 1 i don't think it will do anything and 2 i don't want to loose files and stuff like that. (also the reason why i didn't sort this out earlier is i use my pc every day and i didn't want to fuck anything up

Hi, i've just recently ordered an Asus Prime B350 - Plus motherboard for a budget new build. I noticed on the back there are 2 x teal coloured usb type - a ports, which, according to the Asus website, are 3.1 ports capable of transfer speeds of upto 10gb/sec. Does anyone know if any 'usb 3.1 gen 2 type - a' devices/cables exist? I only see gen 2 type - c devices/cables online!

Hi, Does anyone know where I can buy an item like this in Canada? It is a M.2 to front Panel Type-E Header. This header is used for cases which have a USB 3.1 Gen2 Type C front panel connector (Like the NZXT H210). Finding There's like only 8 ITX motherboards with the Type-E header natively supported so was wondering if I could use this for a build instead of getting a motherboard with this header. built in Thanks,

So recently I bought a XPG Gammix S5 512GB (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07K8W69CQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and I gonna use this for my OS due my old one is 128GB M.2 SSD that is but problem is the M.2 only has one slot as a result that I need adapter for the cloning of my old SSD to my new ssd so I bought this adapter (NVMe to USB Adapter, M.2 SSD to USB 3.1 Type A Card) (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VVNGYFV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) when I but the USB and the M.2 together I look the computer management give me this error on the image how you fix this problem I have.

Hello, its probably a stupid question... but I've got a Microsoft surface book 2 15' which has a USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 connector, (5Gbps) I also have a Caldigit dock (http://a.co/4eZ3OVE) which is thunderbolt 3 dock... (I know) but it works fine for (60W) charging, (1x 2560x1080) display, (7.1) audio, (1gbs) ethernet and usb peripherals (portable ssd, mouse and keyboard) Now my problem is the thunderbold cable.. so in the box came a 0.5m(or 1.6ft) thuderbolt cable.. and its way to short for my use now i can upgrade to a 2m(or 6.6ft) thunderbolt cable, but its around 60/80 euro's So my question is can I use a (cheaper) USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 cable to do the same thing??? or will I run into problems?

Hi all, I'm trying to sort out the cable management of my new custom build desk, and want to make use of the thunderbolt 3 port on my motherboard. Seeing as the most common cables that are clogging up the back of my PC are usb peripheral cables, I thought I would use said thunderbolt port for a usb hub, allowing me to migrate all of the clustered usb cables from the back of my PC, to a well managed location elsewhere on the desk. The issue is that I cant seem to find a thunderbolt 3 or usb c 3.1 gen 2 hub that is powered with enough ports for everything... I am starting to wonder if such a thing exists.... All in all, I need to find out if a powered (through the usb-c or otherwise) thunderbolt 3, or usb c 3.1 gen 2 10 port USB 3.0/3.1 only hub exists. And if so, where to find it. Thanks in advance for any help, and sorry if I have put this in the wrong place

Just built my first rig. Bought a Corsair case with a usb 3.1 gen 2 on the front. The problem is from what I can tell my motherboard does not have an internal header for usb 3.1 gen 2. I have the Asus Prime z370-a. Is there an expansion card I can buy to add an internal header or an adapter to 3.1 gen 1.0? Stuck on this one and can’t find much help google searching... Maybe should I return this and get the strix z-370? I don’t think it supports the Asus thunderbolt expansion though...
