Looking for a lightweight and usable OS for my old laptop. I had upgraded it to an SSD not long ago and upgraded it into Windows 10 from windows 8 but it does not seem to like Windows 10 much as it just bogs down on the CPU a lot even when im not doing anything. I am looking for an OS that runs fine on a 5 year old AMD laptop with 4 core 2ghz AMD cpu and with 4gb of RAM. I only plan to use Discord and for light video and media browsing. Is there some kind of OS out there that does not take much tinkering with and I can get it up and running easily?

Hello everyone, I recently upgraded my RAM from 8GB to 16 GB (2x 8GB). The RAMs are detected correctly as 16GB but the problem is that the Task Manager displays only 11.1GB is usable. Is this normal? Is there a way to increase that? P.S: XMP is enabled in BIOS. Thank You

So I had 6GB of ddr2, all sticks were usable according to My Computer Properties, I have upgraded to Windows 10 then added 1 more stick of ram (1Gig) and now it says 2.75GB Usable but detects the 7 Gigs of ddr2. My specs are in my prof and yes I'm using 64 bit of course. What can I do?

Hello, I couldn't find much on the subject so I'm asking again about an issue I'm running into on my new RYzen 1600 build. The issue is that windows reports me only having 7.9 GB of usable RAM even though I have two 8gb sticks in the system. I've tried resetting bios, using the msconfig trick, and booting on both single sticks but the issues persist. I also have latest bios with no help either. can anyone tell me why my system is running with that much missing. My system is a r5 1600 with a evga 1060 sc edition, 2 8gb sticks of corsair lpx fanservice

I have an hp 2000-2106Tu with intel celeron B830 processor and a windows 7 32-bit OS. It had a 2gb ram intalled with 929mb usable so i thought of increasing it and got a 4gb 1333mgz ddr3 ram. When i intalled the 4gig ram i first took the 2gig one out which was 1600mgz (knowing 32 bit OS only supports upto 4gb ram). When i booted my pc and checked the computer properties it was showing Installed memory 4gb Usable 929mb. I have no idea whats the problem. Please help.

This is a friends computer, Running Win7 x64 on Amd fx6300, msi gaming 970, gtx550ti ,2x4 hyperx blu and a 500w psu. the problems he has is 1- can't boot with both sticks (no display) 2-when he did manage to boot with both sticks earlier, he could see 8gb of ram installled but 3.80gb usable. Now the computer boots up just fine with either sticks by themselves, but when theyre together it just doesn't work, single stick ok- dual not. This came out of no where just one day, he did most of the solutions suggested on other threads and forums, they didn't work. Made sure BIOS was okay and up to date, and the memory options was good Unticked the maximum ram from the boot tab Cleared CMOS Tried different ram configurations, and who knows what else.. One thing is he didnt run a memtest yet as he thought nothing would shop up since it doesn't seem to work for anyone and it always comes up all clear. He already fried a mobo before so maybe one of the sticks is messed up? but then again, Its just fine booting up on a single stick. We couldnt figure out whats up, because most threads end with solutions that are just irrelevant.

Hey guys, Recently i put together my first gaming rig after weeks and weeks of research. Firstly, the chosen hardware can be found at the bottom of my post. So to get right into it, after about a week of playing on my new rig i ran into a slight issue, being the well known "usable ram" shown in the "control panel" under "system". As you can see by my hardware i have installed 2 DIMMS of 4gb Kingston HyperX 1866 ram, yet my issue is that control panel recognizes the full 8gb of ram but only tells me that 3.95gb are usable. I believe this issue cam up right after a windows update, but i cannot say exactly when it showed up. Let me walk you through all of the possibilities of potential issues that i went over in order to figure out what the problem is. (I am currently on holiday, and not with the pc, so i will not be able to provide screen shots as proof for a week or so) I made sure that my OS system is 64 bit. (Windows 10 home 64 bit) Took out, and re-seated the ram sticks properly in the located dual channel DIMM slots as shown by my mother board (msi 970 gaming) manual. Took out the CPU, and placed it back to make sure that there are no damaged or bent pins. (Did this without a magnifying glass) Made sure that the CPU cooler isnt over tightened, as to not be bending the motherboard and potentially interfering with the CPU and memory connection. Took the motherboard out of the case, and placed it back in to make sure that it isn't being grounded to the case where it isn't supposed to be. Checked that the BIOS properly recognizes the memory sticks in their allocated dual channel slots. Manually set all of the memory speeds and voltage in the bios. Ran MemTest for about 5-6 hours (i know it isn't enough, and that Linus suggests at least 24 hours) with all passes. Took out the cmos battery numerous times to reset the bios. Used a screw driver to reset the bios by shortening out the two JAB1 pins(if i remember their code name correctly), since msi forgot to give me the little socket that you put over pins to short them out. Went into msconfig and made sure that the "Max memoy" check box is cleared. [uPDATE] Reinstalled the OS Tried different ram stick in different slots, all are working. These are pretty much the 11 solutions i found on the internet that others potentially used to fix the usable memory problem. My case how ever is very interesting. I can say that i am almost certain that my computer makes use of the full 8gb of ram as opposed to the 3.95gb that control panel claims to be useful. (CPU-z recognizes both of the ram stick in the slot that they are in, as well as the full memory). Take a look at the following results: one stick of ram (1x4gb, usable memory according to control panel = 4gb) Fire Strike score is over 5k two sticks of ram (2x4gb, usable memory according to control panel = 3.95gb) Fire Strike score is over 6k This is when i began to get an idea of what might be going on. The idea that there might a sort of "communication" problem between the motherboard and OS. A problem where the motherboard isn't happy with the HyperX ram. And that's when i found the following document: http://msi.com/file/test_report/TR10_3193.pdf The ram i have bought simply isn't on the list of, what msi claims to be compatible ram with the msi 970 gaming motherboard. So after my very long rant, here is my question; Has anyone out there come across a ram compatibility issue like this? Or perhaps more importantly, do you think this could be the problem at all? That msi simply believe the said HyperX isn't completely compatible with the mobo so small issues appear like recognition of the full ram, whilst all of the ram is actually being utilized. Hello. I got 8GB ram but it says only 4GB ram is usable. I have tried unchecking and checking inside mschonfig, which is the common solution but for some reason it does not work for me. Does anybody else tried this before? What it says: "8GB RAM (4GB useable)" In task manager>preformance>recourse monitor, it says theres 4gb reserved for hardware. Specs: GTX 970 Gaming1 Intel i5 8GB ram (4 pins) My motherboard and processor is pretty old and my graphic is very new, don't know if it have anything to do with it.

Alright so Windows 8.1 and my motherboards bios both say that I have 4 out of 8Gb of Memory used. I have 2 memory slots, and use 2x4gb Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz (which is supported by my mobo). Here's a screenshot. I have updated my BIOS, used different dimms, and underclocked them to 1333. None of these seemed to work, so I don't know what to do now. I don't think it's a dead slot because it realizes there is memory in it. Thanks! Hello, I have 12GB ram installed for quite some time, however only recently I noticed there is only 8.6GB usable out of the 12GB. It does not say this under system in control panel, but it says this in task manager. Sometimes when I run BF4, it says the system is low on RAM and tells me to close down some programs, however BF4 was only using 1.5GB or so. I have placed my RAM in the correct slots on my PC following my motherboard manual. I´m just wondering if Windows 8 is worse than Windows 10 in any way that would bring a performance decrease in any of my programs: games, CAD and others (probably not, right?) and if there´s still a way to upgrade for free to Windows 10 or if that offer is long gone by now.
